Summary: COUNCEL OF THE HEART
THE HEART OF A MAN
OBSERVATION: PROVERBS IS A COLLECTION OF WISE SAYINGS AND PRACTICAL PRINCIPLES THAT POINT TO A WELL-MANAGED LIFE. THE BOOK IS SOMETIMES CALLED “COMPRESSED EXPERIENCE”. MOST OF THE PROVERBS WERE PINNED BY KING SOLOMON.
INTERPRETATION: PROVERBS 20: 5 (NKJV) COUNSEL IN THE HEART OF MAN IS LIKE DEEP WATER, BUT A MAN OF UNDERSTANDING WILL DRAW IT OUT.
POINTS TO PONDER: MOTIVATION FOR BEHAVIOR IS SOMETIMES COMPLEX. A GIFTED COUNSELOR SOMETIMES DIAGNOSES THE CORE ISSUES OF FEELING AND MOTIVATION OF HIS PATIENT. IT IS LIKE DRAWING WATER FROM A WELL. IT IS TIME INTENSIVE.
A GODLY COUNSELOR CAREFULLY ASSESSES BY LISTENING TO A PERSONS MOTIVES BEFORE HE GIVES COUNSEL.
FRIENDS ARE NOT NECESSARILY GOOD COUNSELORS. A GODLY COUNSELOR USES SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT BEFORE HE GIVES COUNSEL.
PROVERBS 12: 15 (THE BOOK) FOOLS THINK THEY NEED NO ADVICE, BUT THE WISE LISTEN TO OTHERS.
APPLICATION: DISCERN THE HEART OF THE MAN OR WOMAN. FIRST, GET A GENERAL FIX ON THEIR COUNTENANCE. SECOND, LISTEN CAREFULLY TO WHAT THE SPEAK. THIRD, LISTEN TO THEIR DEEDS. FORTH, DISCERN THEIR NATURE (COMPOSURE). FIFTH, LISTEN TO THEIR CLOSING REMARKS. SIXTH: GET A FIX ON THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS.
