THE HARVEST
Jeremiah 8:20
TEXT: (NKJV) “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved!”
INTRODUCTION:
I. THIS SCRIPTURE SIGNIFIES THAT THE HARVEST IS VERY IMPORTANT TO GOD
“The harvest …,
John 4:35-36 (NKJV) Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! 36And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.
Proverbs 11:30 (NKJV) The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.
Matthew 28:18-20 (NKJV) And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
II. THIS SCRIPTURE IMPLIES THAT THE TIME FOR HARVEST WILL CERTAINLY COME TO AN END
“The harvest is past,
Revelation 14:15-16 (NKJV) And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, “Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the time has come for You to reap, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.” 16So He who sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.
John 9:4 (NKJV) I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.
III. THIS SCRIPTURE AMPLIFIES THE FACT THAT THE HARVEST IS DEPENDENT UPON GOD’S TIME TABLE
“The harvest is past, the summer is ended,
2 Peter 3:8-9 (NKJV) But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Acts 17:30-31 (NKJV) Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”
IV. THIS SCRIPTURE IDENTIFIES THE NUMBER OF THE UN-HARVESTED
“The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved!”
Matthew 7:13-14 (NKJV) “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
Matthew 7:22-23 (NKJV) Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
V. THIS SCRIPTURE EMPHASIZES THE FATE OF THE UN-HARVESTED
“The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved!”
Revelation 20:12-15 (NKJV) And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
Isaiah 50:11 (NKJV) Look, all you who kindle a fire, who encircle yourselves with sparks: walk in the light of your fire and in the sparks you have kindled— this you shall have from My hand: You shall lie down in torment.
