The Great Example

Summary: Jesus gave us great example of living for us to immitate as true children of God.
Jesus gave us great example of living for us to immitate as true children of God.
I. He thinks of others (vs.5-6)
-"your attitude should be the same as that of Jesus Christ"
-Outlook determines outcome. If the outlook is selfish, the actions will be devisive and destructive.
-"If you want to find out what a worker is really like, don’t give him responsibilities, give him privileges."
-"A driver’s license is not an authority to drive but a privilege to drive."
-Most people can handle responsibilities if you pay him big.
II. He serves to others (v.7)
-Thinking of others in an abstract sense is insufficient; you must get down to him deeper.
III. He sacrifices for others (v.8)
-Many people are willing to serve others if it does not cost them anything. But if there is a price to do that, they suddenly cost interest.
-"A ministry that cost nothing accomplishes nothing"-Dr. J.H. Joweth
-"If there is to be a blessing, there must be some bleeding"
IV. He obeys God (8b)
-He became obedient to death-even the death of the cross.
-Military rule: "Obey first before you complain"
-To obey is better than sacrifice (1 Sam. 15:22)
V. He glorifies God (9-11)
-Of course, the goal of all that we do is to glorify God.
-Paul worry us against "vainglory" in verse 3.
"Many Christians and pastors have rivalry with their accomplishments in their own ministry. But Jesus humble himself even to death."
