The main point of this sermon is to emphasize the power, responsibility, and promise of God's presence in the Great Commission, urging believers to embrace their role as disciples and share God's love with the world.

Introduction

Good morning, brothers and sisters! Today, we are going to explore the Great Commission of Jesus found in Matthew 28:16-20.

As A.W. Tozer once said, "The highest expression of the will of God in this age is the Great Commission." Let us now read the words of Jesus from the Scripture and see the beauty and power of this Commission.

>> Read Matthew 28:16-20

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

The Power of the Great Commission

The Great Commission is a clear demonstration of the authority of Jesus Christ. In Matthew 28:18, Jesus declares, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." This statement is a bold proclamation of His divine sovereignty and lordship over all creation. As the Son of God, Jesus possesses the ultimate power and authority to command His followers to go forth and make disciples of all nations. This authority is not only a testament to His divinity but also a source of strength and confidence for us as we carry out His mission. When we understand that Jesus has all authority in heaven and on earth, we can be assured that our efforts to share the Gospel and make disciples are backed by the highest power in the universe.

The Great Commission is an invitation to participate in God's redemptive plan for humanity. Throughout history, God has been actively working to reconcile His creation to Himself, and the Great Commission is a vital part of this divine mission. By calling us to go and make disciples, Jesus is inviting us to join Him in the work of redemption, to be His hands and feet in a world that desperately needs His love and grace. This is an incredible privilege and responsibility, one that should fill us with awe and gratitude. As we embrace the power of the Great Commission, we become not only witnesses to God's saving work but also active participants in His divine plan.

The Great Commission is a call to unity and collaboration among believers. Jesus' command to make disciples of all nations is not limited to a select few or a specific group within the Church; it is a mandate for every follower of Christ, regardless of their background, gifts, or abilities. This universal call to discipleship highlights the importance of unity and cooperation within the Body of Christ. As we work together to fulfill the Great Commission, we are reminded that we are all part of a larger, interconnected community of believers, each with a unique role to play in God's kingdom. This sense of unity and shared purpose is a powerful force that can overcome the barriers and divisions that often hinder the Church's witness in the world.

The Great Commission is a reminder of the transformative power of the Gospel. As we go forth and make disciples, we are called to teach them "to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:20). This comprehensive approach to discipleship involves not only sharing the message of salvation but also nurturing spiritual growth and maturity in those who come to faith in Christ. The Gospel has the power to change lives, to heal brokenness, and to bring hope to the hopeless. As we engage in the work of the Great Commission, we have the opportunity to witness firsthand the transformative power of God's Word in the lives of those we disciple.

The Great Commission is an expression of God's love for all people. When Jesus commands us to make disciples of all nations, He is emphasizing the universality of His message and the inclusiveness of His kingdom. God's love extends to every corner of the earth, and His desire is for all people to come to know and experience His grace and forgiveness. The Great Commission is a powerful reminder that we are called to be ambassadors of this love, to share the good news of Jesus Christ with everyone, regardless of their race, culture, or background.
