Summary: In this sermon, we will explore examples of sharing the gospel with others.
As Christians, we are called to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others. The gospel is not meant to be kept within ourselves, but rather to be proclaimed to all nations, peoples, and languages. In this sermon, we will explore examples of sharing the gospel with others.
1. Jesus' Command: "Go and Make Disciples"
In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus gives the Great Commission to His disciples, commanding them to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
The Great Commission: Sharing the Gospel with Others
As Christians, we are called to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others. The gospel is not meant to be kept within ourselves, but rather to be proclaimed to all nations, peoples, and languages. In this article, we will explore six biblical examples of sharing the gospel with others.
1. Jesus' Command: "Go and Make Disciples"
In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus gives the Great Commission to His disciples, commanding them to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." This passage serves as a foundation for our mandate to share the gospel with others.
2. The Early Church's Evangelism
In Acts 2:42-47, we see the early church's commitment to evangelism. The believers in Jerusalem "devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." As a result, "the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." This passage highlights the importance of community and discipleship in our evangelistic efforts.
3. Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch
In Acts 8:26-40, we read the story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch. Philip, led by the Holy Spirit, shared the gospel with the eunuch, who was reading from the book of Isaiah. The eunuch asked Philip to explain the passage, and Philip "began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus." This passage illustrates the importance of being led by the Holy Spirit in our evangelistic efforts.
4. Peter's Sermon on Pentecost
In Acts 2:14-41, we read Peter's sermon on Pentecost. Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, preached the gospel to the crowds gathered in Jerusalem. He explained the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy in Jesus Christ and called the people to repentance. This passage highlights the importance of proclaiming the gospel boldly and with conviction.
5. Paul's Evangelism in Athens
In Acts 17:16-34, we read about Paul's evangelism in Athens. Paul, seeing the idolatry of the city, preached the gospel to the philosophers on Mars Hill. He explained the nature of God and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and some of the people believed. This passage illustrates the importance of adapting our evangelistic approach to our audience.
6. The Samaritan Woman's Testimony
In John 4:1-42, we read the story of the Samaritan woman's encounter with Jesus. Jesus shared the gospel with the woman, who was an outcast in her community. She believed and immediately shared the gospel with others, leading many to believe in Jesus. This passage highlights the importance of personal testimony and evangelism.
Conclusion
As Christians, we are called to share the gospel with others. These examples illustrate the importance of evangelism and provide guidance for our own evangelistic efforts. May we be empowered by the Holy Spirit to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with a world in need.
