NU 20:1 In the first month the whole Israelite community arrived at the Desert of Zin, and they stayed at Kadesh. There Miriam died and was buried.

NU 20:2 Now there was no water for the community, and the people gathered in opposition to Moses and Aaron. 3 They quarreled with Moses and said, "If only we had died when our brothers fell dead before the LORD! 4 Why did you bring the LORD’s community into this desert, that we and our livestock should die here? 5 Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to this terrible place? It has no grain or figs, grapevines or pomegranates. And there is no water to drink!"

NU 20:6 Moses and Aaron went from the assembly to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and fell facedown, and the glory of the LORD appeared to them. 7 The LORD said to Moses, 8 "Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink."

NU 20:9 So Moses took the staff from the LORD’s presence, just as he commanded him. 10 He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, "Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?" 11 Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.

NU 20:12 But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them."

NU 20:13 These were the waters of Meribah, where the Israelites quarreled with the LORD and where he showed himself holy among them.

1. Following God is a Great Adventure!

Steven Curtis Chapman has a song, or maybe a CD entitled the Great Adventure…. And friends, this is true.. Serving and walking with God is a Great Adventure. There is a Key to Making this Great Adventure “Great”, and I want to share that Key with you today..if you will follow along with me today in our story… you will know without a doubt what that Key is and you will need to ask yourself, do I have that Key.

What is that Key? I’m not going to tell you yet, that way you have to listen. Maybe you will figure it out.

Following God, in His Will truly is a Great Adventure. I can’t help but think about the Journey Nola and I have experienced so far… and were not even close to being through.

When I graduated from College, Nola and I met with the District Superintendent from the Dakota District, he told us about this small church in this Big town, in Grand Forks, ND… Nola and I prayed, we wanted to make sure that wherever we went it was where God wanted us to go… We prayed hard… we had very little information about the town, and the situation, but we both knew that God was saying to Go… We went, sight unseen.. Never had seen the town, the church, or met the people… The great adventure had started.

When we arrived in town we had four days to find a place to live, and to unpack all of our belongings. The first three nights, my mom, Nola and I slept in a store… luckily that store sold beds….The problem was that anybody walking by two sides of the store could easily look in the windows and watch us sleep…. That was a little unnerving. My mom slept with the covers over her head. But God had a plan… you see not only was there a small group of people there that needed a pastor to love them and help them heal from a bad situation they had just gone through… but there was a young lady there who was needing a pastor and wife to give her counsel over a crisis pregnancy…. You see, God knew our hearts, and he knew her need, and His Grace brought about a miracle that blessed Nola and I with our girls…. The truth is many times we can’t figure out what God is doing or Why as he Leads us…. But if you know the Key to this Great Adventure, and you use this key in your life…..you will truly be blessed and you will reap the benefits of your Faith in God.

The Great Adventure in Our Lives have brought us right here today, together God wants to take His Church to the Promised Land… the question is and has always been, even in the days of Moses and the Israelites… It’s the Key to the Great Adventure… do you want to know what it is?
