Summary: The good shepherd left the 99 sheep and went in search of the one lost sheep. Similarly, Jesus the good shepherd left all of His disciples and people and travelled all the way to Samaria in search of the one lost Samaritan woman.
The good shepherd left the 99 sheep and went in search of the one lost sheep. Similarly, Jesus the good shepherd left all of His disciples and people and travelled all the way to Samaria in search of the one lost Samaritan woman. Jesus is willing even to go vast distances and to faraway places to find the lost sheep. If you are the lost sheep, there is nowhere that you can hide or go that Jesus won’t be able to find you.
No matter how deep you are in sin, or how hidden you are in sin, Jesus will surely find you and set you free. Jesus arrived early and waited for the Samaritan women to arrive at the well. Before the Samaritan women arrived, Jesus came and sat at the well. Similarly, Jesus comes and waits at our place of daily activity to speak with us.
Samaritan women did things that were out of place because of her sinful life. She arrived at the well in the sixth hour, or in the afternoon, when other women were drawing water in the morning. She could be living a life of disgrace. But Jesus left all his reputation and came in search of the Samaritan women. Speaking to or associating with the Samaritans is considered unholy by Jews, and speaking to a sinner in Samaria is much more unholy. Jesus went very far in terms of physical distance – travelled to Samaria and spoke to a person deep in cultural disgrace. Jesus is willing to travel long physical and spiritual distances(deep within your heart) - to search and find you. Jesus is willing to enter the dark dungeons of your heart, where the enemy has imprisoned you, and set you free. Our sins also sometimes make us do things out of place.
For Samaritan women, Jesus was waiting beside the well; for you, it may be your job, your home, or any other solitary place. Don't allow your sins or the devil convince you that God is angry and far away. Jesus is near you and eager to speak with you. Allow Jesus to speak and correct you. When God talks to you, don't hide your sins but be open about them. Jesus come to set you free and align you back to God’s plans. Jesus comes to set you free and align you back with God's purposes.
