Summary: In life like the Samaritan were up to bat at moments when we see needs and respond actively or inactively. The Levite and Priest responded inactively but the Samaritan responded by being active he was up to bat and hit a grand slam.
1. The Good Samaritan Story Luke 10:25-37
• An expert in the law Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
• Jesus said, 26 “What is written in the Law?” “How do you read it?”
• The young lawyer said, “ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]”
• Jesus told him 28 “You have answered correctly,” “Do this and you will live.”
• The young man then says, “And who is my neighbor?”
• Jesus shares with the man a Parable called the Good Samaritan
• A man was attacked by robbers they beat him and left him half dead.
• A Priest happened to be going that way he sees the injured man he passes by on the other side
• A Levite saw the injured man and he too passed by on the other side
• A Samaritan , came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.
2. My granddaughters play softball when there up to bat I hear remarks like. “You Got This”
Sometimes in life we are up to bat and we have to tell ourselfs “You Got This”
• The Good Samaritan Jesus says He’s got this situation
• Remember the kids VBS Joshua 1:9 God is with you wherever you go
• Samaritan thought “I got this”
• He thought within himself “I got this” so he took pity on the man He had Compassion
• He thought I got this so he “bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine".
3. Another remark I often hear is “You Can Do It” The Good Samaritan was up to bat he came to a conclusion “You Can Do It”. . Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me.
• Samaritan was up to bat he thought I can do all things so he rises to the occasion
• He steps up to the plate He is willing to take a risk robbers could still be near or there.
• Isaiah took a risk I will go where you send me, Here I am send me
• Abraham took a risk willing to sacrifice His son believing all along God will provide a lamb
• Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on the raging sea. Disciples take risks
4. I also often hear this comment when a batter is up “Let’s Go” The Good Samaritan, he is up to bat and thinks “Let’s Go” James says22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, Lets Go
• Lets Go like the Good Samaritan 33 the Samaritan, as he traveled 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He was a doer not a observer, or a bystander He was active
• Lets Go He was willing to cross social barriers he is a Jew I am an Samaritan
• Lets Go lets stop and help those in need.
• Lets go set aside our businesses’ Jesus said on an occasion Let’s Go Make disciples
5. And yet another term I hear is “Come ON’. The Good Samaritan is up to bat he says like the fans at softball games “Come ON such and such get a hit. Come on Follow me and I will make you Good Samaritans
• The good Samaritan knocked it out of the ball park
• Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.
• 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and
• when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
6. Finally Jesus encourages the Lawyer and us to be like the Good Samaritan when were up to bat.
• He tells us to Go and do like wise
• Remember You Got This . Deuteronomist 6Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
• Remember You Can Do It for we are clothed with strength and dignity and will laugh without fear of the future Proverbs Virtuous woman
• Remember Lets Go Batter The Spirit that God has given me does not make me timid; instead, His Spirit fills me with power, love, and self-control. Timothy writes
• Remember Come On Jesus said Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you
• Lets step up to the plate with compassion, courage, and conviction we need more Good Samaritans are we ready to play ball?
