Summary: The Golden Rule can not be improved upon.
THE GOLDEN RULE
MATTHEW 7:12
“Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.”
I. THE RULE
A. A VERY SIGNIFICANT “THEREFORE”
1. Look at previous verse.
“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” v.11
a. God is very good.
1. God will not harm His children.
2. God wants to help His children.
b. God is very gracious.
2. Learn a practical lesson.
a. God is good, He expects us to be good.
b. God is gracious, He expects us to be gracious.
B. CONSIDER WHAT THE SAVIOR IS
TEACHING.
1. “Whatsoever ye would that men should do to
you.”
a. I want people to treat me fairly.
b. I want people to talk to me respectfully.
c. I want people to trust my judgment.
2. “Do ye even so to them”
II. THE REASON
A. SUPPORTED BY SCRIPTURE
“For this is the law and the prophets.”
Galatians 5:14 “14For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”
B. STRESSED BY THE SAVIOR.
Mark 12:31 “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”
May God give us guidance and grace when we endeavor to do our duty.
