Summary: Honour is not something man can manufacture; it is a crown God places on those He approves. It is divine recognition that sets a person apart for elevation, influence, and distinction.

INTRODUCTION:
In a world where men are often disgraced, forgotten, or treated with contempt, there is a God who specialises in lifting and honouring the rejected. Divine honour is not a product of human effort or status but a manifestation of God’s grace and favour. The Scriptures make it clear that God has the power to remove shame and clothe a man with dignity, just as He did with Joseph, Esther, and Mordecai.
When God crowns a person with honour, no man, devil, or circumstance can reverse it. Honour is not just about titles or recognition; it is about divine positioning, favour before men, and supernatural lifting that sets you apart for glory. It is the removal of reproach and the public decoration of a person who has been divinely approved.
This study is an invitation to understand the God who promotes from the dust, who changes garments of shame into robes of honour, and who positions His people for visible, undeniable greatness. When God crowns you, every past shame becomes irrelevant, and your life becomes a testimony to His glory.
1. GOD IS THE LIFTER AND PROMOTER OF MEN
God does not promote based on human credentials, but by His sovereign will and purpose.
a) Promotion Comes From God
God alone determines who to lift and who to abase (Psalm 75:6-7). When He chooses to honour a man, He bypasses protocols and systems.
b) He Lifts the Poor from the Dust
No matter how lowly a person is, God can elevate them to sit with princes (1 Samuel 2:8). He gives value to the valueless.
c) Divine Honour Nullifies Human Rejection
Even if the world has written you off, when God crowns you, He makes your enemies bow before you (Revelation 3:9).
d) God Rewards the Faithful with Honour
Those who honour God with their lives, decisions, and service will receive honour in return (1 Samuel 2:30).
BIBLICAL EXAMPLE:
Mordecai was a gatekeeper, despised and overlooked, but because of his faithfulness and divine timing, God caused the king to remember him. Mordecai was clothed in royal apparel and paraded through the city as a man the king delights to honour (Esther 6:1-11).
2. GOD CROWNS WITH GLORY TO REPLACE SHAME
God does not just remove shame; He replaces it with double honour.
a) He Turns Shame into Glory
Where there was disgrace, God provides a new identity and glory (Isaiah 61:7).
b) Honour is a Divine Exchange
God exchanges ashes for beauty, mourning for joy, and shame for honour (Isaiah 61:3).
c) Glory is a Mark of God’s Presence
When God is with a person, their life begins to radiate honour (Exodus 33:14-16).
d) Honour is a Prophetic Manifestation of Destiny
God has destined His people for glory and not shame (Romans 8:30).
BIBLICAL EXAMPLE:
Joseph moved from the prison to the palace because God crowned him with honour. In one day, he was remembered, released, promoted, and enthroned. His former shame and suffering were forgotten (Genesis 41:39-44).
3. GOD REMOVES FILTHY GARMENTS AND GIVES ROYAL ROBES
Before honour is given, God first removes every garment of reproach.
a) God Deals with Our Iniquities First
He removes the filthy garments of sin and shame (Zechariah 3:4) before placing honour.
b) Divine Honour Requires a Change of Identity
God does not honour what He has not cleansed. He cleanses to glorify.
c) Honour Comes with New Garments and Positioning
He changes garments as a symbol of new status (Luke 15:22).
d) Honour is for Those Who Submit to His Process
When we allow God to purge and prepare us, He clothes us with honour (Malachi 3:3).
BIBLICAL EXAMPLE:
Joshua the high priest was accused and clothed in filthy garments, but God rebuked the accuser, removed the filth, and placed a clean mitre and garments upon him — a symbol of restored honour and divine approval (Zechariah 3:1-5).
4. GOD HONOURS THOSE WHO WALK IN WISDOM AND HUMILITY
True honour is reserved for the wise and the humble in spirit.
a) Honour is the Inheritance of the Wise
Those who walk in godly wisdom are exalted and crowned (Proverbs 3:35).
b) Humility Precedes Honour
Before honour comes, humility must be embraced (Proverbs 15:33).
c) Honour is Attracted by Character, Not by Ambition
God honours the content of one’s heart, not outward qualifications (Psalm 24:3-5).
d) Honouring Others Positions You for Honour
When you value others, God causes men to value and honour you in return (Romans 12:10).
BIBLICAL EXAMPLE:
David honoured Saul even when he had every reason to kill him. His humility and integrity attracted God’s honour and eventually established his throne forever (1 Samuel 24:4-6, 2 Samuel 7:16).
