INTRODUCTION
Prayer is the lifeline of the believer, yet many struggle with waiting seasons where answers seem delayed. In such moments, doubts creep in and faith is tested, but Scripture continually reminds us that God is not indifferent to the cries of His people. He hears every prayer, even when silence seems to linger.
Jesus, in Luke 18, presents a parable not to discourage us but to strengthen our confidence in God’s character. The unjust judge answered out of annoyance, but God answers out of covenant love, mercy, and faithfulness. The contrast teaches us that if persistence works with men, it works more effectively with God.
The God we serve is not slow, careless, or forgetful. He is a God of appointed times, and when those times arrive, His response is swift, accurate, and overwhelming. This message assures believers that heaven responds quickly when faith aligns with God’s will.
1. GOD HEARS BEFORE YOU FINISH PRAYING
God’s speed in answering prayers begins with His ability to hear instantly and perfectly.
a) God listens attentively to His people. (Isaiah 65:24)
God’s responsiveness is such that even before words are fully formed, He discerns the cry of the heart. His ears are never closed to sincere prayers.
b) Heaven is attentive to covenant voices. (Psalm 34:15)
When a believer cries out in righteousness, heaven responds because covenant access grants direct audience with God.
c) Faith activates immediate divine response. (Mark 11:24)
When prayers are offered in faith, God treats them as already answered in the realm of the Spirit.
d) God’s silence does not mean absence. (Habakkuk 2:3)
Even when answers seem delayed, the response is already scheduled and will not fail at the appointed time.
Biblical Example:
Daniel prayed once, but heaven responded immediately. Though the manifestation was delayed by spiritual opposition, the answer was released the same day he prayed (Daniel 9:21-23).
2. GOD ANSWERS SPEEDILY TO AVENGE HIS ELECT
God is deeply committed to defending His people against injustice and oppression.
a) God rises quickly when His people are oppressed. (Psalm 102:13)
When suffering reaches its fullness, God intervenes decisively.
b) Persistent prayers provoke divine action. (Luke 18:1-5)
God does not reject persistence; rather, He honours it as a sign of unshakable faith.
c) Heaven reacts to injustice on behalf of believers. (Psalm 94:1)
God avenges wrongdoing to restore dignity and justice to His children.
d) Divine vengeance brings immediate reversal. (Exodus 12:29-31)
God’s intervention can end years of bondage in a single night.
Biblical Example:
Israel cried under Egyptian oppression for years, but when God arose, liberation came swiftly and without negotiation (Exodus 12).
3. GOD RESPONDS QUICKLY WHEN HIS GLORY IS AT STAKE
When God’s name and honor are involved, His response is unmistakably fast.
a) God defends His reputation through swift miracles. (1 Kings 18:36-38)
When faith challenges falsehood, God responds without delay.
b) Public prayers often provoke public answers. (Joshua 10:12-14)
God can suspend natural laws to affirm His power.
c) Speedy answers silence mockers and doubters. (Isaiah 41:11)
God’s quick intervention establishes His authority over opposition.
d) God moves fast to restore His people before shame sets in
(Joel 2:25-26)
Divine speed prevents prolonged reproach and loss.
Biblical Example:
Elijah prayed once, and fire fell immediately from heaven, silencing idolatry and restoring true worship (1 Kings 18).
4. GOD’S SPEED IS GOVERNED BY WISDOM AND PURPOSE
Though God answers speedily, His timing is always perfect and purposeful.
a) God’s speed never compromises His plan. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
Every answer comes at the moment that guarantees maximum glory.
b) Delay is often divine preparation
(James 1:3-4)
God uses waiting seasons to build maturity and endurance.
c) Sudden answers follow seasons of endurance. (Job 42:10)
God often ends long trials with sudden breakthroughs.
d) God moves swiftly when preparation is complete. (Genesis 21:1-2)
No promise is forgotten or misplaced.
Biblical Example:
Sarah waited years but received immediate conception once God’s appointed time arrived (Genesis 21).
CONCLUSION
The God who answers speedily is not limited by time, delay, or opposition. He hears the cries of His people, rises to defend them, and intervenes suddenly when the appointed time comes. Speed in God does not mean haste; it means accuracy, completeness, and power.
Believers must therefore pray without fainting, trust without wavering, and wait without murmuring. When God finally moves, He restores fully, answers clearly, and glorifies Himself mightily.
