Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Explore and understand the depth of God's unfailing love, abundant grace, and the many chances He gives us, as depicted in Psalms 145:1-9.
Good morning, friends! I'm elated to be here with you today to delve into the Word of our God.
The great Christian author, C.S. Lewis, once said, "God, who needs nothing, loves into existence wholly superfluous creatures in order that He may love and perfect them." What a profound truth! It is this love, this grace, and these chances that we will explore today.
Let's read our scripture passage for the day:
"I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever. Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts. They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty— and I will meditate on your wonderful works. They tell of the power of your awesome works— and I will proclaim your great deeds. They celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness. The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made." (Psalms 145:1-9, NIV)
Before we journey further, let's bow our heads for a moment of prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your unfailing love, Your abundant grace, and the many chances You give us. As we explore Your word today, we pray that You open our hearts and minds to fully comprehend the depth of Your love and mercy. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
The Lord's unfailing love is the love that God has for us, His children, that is so deep, so wide, so high, and so long that it surpasses knowledge. This love is not based on our performance, our worthiness, or our ability to earn it. It is a love that is freely given, unchanging, and eternal.
The parable of the prodigal son: The father in this story represents God, and his love for his wayward son mirrors God's love for us. Despite the son's rebellion and ungratefulness, the father waits for him with open arms, ready to forgive and restore him. This is the picture of God's unfailing love for us. Even when we stray, when we make mistakes, when we are ungrateful, God's love for us remains steadfast. He is always ready to forgive us, to welcome us back, and to restore us to fellowship with Him.
His patience with us: In the Bible, we see numerous instances where God's people disobey Him, turn away from Him, and even worship other gods. Yet, God does not abandon them. He continues to reach out to them, to call them back to Himself, and to offer them forgiveness and restoration. This patience is a testament to His unfailing love. He does not give up on us, even when we give up on ourselves.
His sacrifice for us: The Bible tells us that "God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). This is the ultimate expression of God's love. He loved us so much that He was willing to send His only Son to die on the cross for our sins. This sacrifice was not made because we deserved it, but because of God's great love for us.
His care for us: Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:26, "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" God's love for us is not just an abstract concept. It is a practical, tangible reality that we can see in the way He provides for our needs, protects us, and guides us.
A source of comfort and hope: In times of trouble, we can find solace in the knowledge that God loves us and is with us. His love gives us the strength to face our challenges and the hope to look forward to a future with Him. As Romans 8:38-39 assures us, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
God's abundant grace is the unmerited favor that God bestows upon us, not because of anything we have done, but because of His love for us ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
