The God Of All Comfort

2 Corinthians 1:2-4

Introduction: We are thankful indeed at a time like this that we are not left without comfort. The God of all comfort comforts His children.

I. WE HAVE THE COMFORT OF THE SCRIPTURES.

Rom. 15:4 “For whatsoever things were written afore time were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”

Phil. 4:19, “But my God shall supply all your need”

Heb. 13:5, “I will never leave thee”

2 Cor. 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for thee for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”

II. COMFORT OF SAINTS, LOVED ONES AND FRIENDS, AND THE PRAYERS OF OTHERS.

2 Cor. 1:4, “Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”

III. THE COMFORT OF GOD HIMSELF THE SPIRIT.

Casting – I Peter 5:7; Prov. 3:5&6; Trust in the Lord with all thine heart.

John 14:16,17 “And I will pray the Father and he shall give you another comforter, that he may abide with you forever, even the spirit of truth.”

2 Cor. 1:3-4a, “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, . . .”

IV. THE COMFORT OF OUR LOVED ONES ARE NOT SUFFERING AND THAT THEY ARE IN HEAVEN!

2 Cor. 5:6-8, “Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” Suffering is over. They are enjoying the beauties of heaven. Rom. 8:18 - Paul said. . . “the suffering of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

V. THE COMFORT OF KNOWING JESUS AS YOUR SAVIOUR.

Is salvation automatic for everyone? Of knowing that you belong to the Lord and that everything is still under his control. Rom. 10:9,10-13; Acts 16:30,31 Saviour know Him! Know about Him – know Him.

VI. THE COMFORT OF REUNION IN HEAVEN.

We have sorrow but not as others which have no hope!

1 Thess. 4:13-18, “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.”

“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

“For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.”

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

“Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

“Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”
