INTRODUCTION:
God is not just good; He is excellent. Everything about Him is marked by perfection, beauty, order, and glory. From creation to redemption, His works are done with precision and purpose. When the Bible declares, “O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth” (Psalm 8:1), it is not just a poetic exclamation—it is a testimony of His incomparable nature.
Excellence is the nature of God. He does not do anything halfway. His plans are flawless, His timing is perfect, His wisdom is beyond comprehension, and His character is pure. Everything He does reflects excellence. He is not a God of mediocrity or confusion; He is the God of all wisdom, all glory, and all perfection.
As His children, we are called to reflect this same spirit of excellence in our lives. We are to imitate His standard, pursue His nature, and strive to bring Him glory in everything we do—spiritually, morally, professionally, and personally.
1. GOD IS EXCELLENT IN HIS NAME AND CHARACTER
God’s name reflects His nature. Every name He bears carries power and excellence.
a) His Name Is Glorious (Psalm 8:1)
His name is exalted above the heavens; it commands honour, reverence, and worship.
b) His Character Is Spotless (Matthew 5:48)
God is perfect in holiness, righteousness, and love—He is blameless in all His ways.
c) His Mercy and Justice Are Balanced (Psalm 89:14)
God rules with righteousness and justice, yet His mercy never fails.
d) His Word Is Pure and Sure (Psalm 12:6)
Every word He speaks is refined and trustworthy; He never fails His promises.
Biblical Example: The life and ministry of Jesus Christ reflect the exact excellence of God. He healed perfectly, spoke wisely, loved unconditionally, and fulfilled the Father’s will without fault (John 1:14).
2. GOD IS EXCELLENT IN HIS WORKS AND CREATION
Everything God has made is orderly, beautiful, and filled with purpose.
a) Creation Declares His Excellence (Genesis 1:31)
God looked at His creation and said, “It was very good.” No waste, no error.
b) His Works Are Wondrous (Psalm 150:2)
We praise Him for His “excellent greatness”—His acts are beyond comprehension.
c) His Design Reveals His Wisdom (Proverbs 3:19)
Creation is a reflection of divine intelligence and order.
d) He Finishes What He Starts (Genesis 2:1-2)
God completed creation with excellence and rested—His work was flawless.
Biblical Example: The Tabernacle in the wilderness was constructed according to God’s exact specification (Exodus 25-40), showing that divine excellence demands order, precision, and beauty.
3. GOD IS EXCELLENT IN WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING
The depth of God’s knowledge and counsel is beyond comparison.
a) His Wisdom Is Infinite (Romans 11:33)
His judgments are unsearchable, and His ways are past finding out.
b) He Gives Wisdom to the Willing (James 1:5)
God shares His wisdom with those who ask sincerely.
c) His Counsel Always Stands (Proverbs 19:21)
Many plans may arise, but only God’s purpose prevails.
d) His Timing Is Perfect (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
God makes all things beautiful in His time—never early, never late.
Biblical Example: Daniel was described as having “an excellent spirit” because of his divine wisdom and insight, which came from God (Daniel 5:12).
4. GOD CALLS US TO A LIFE OF EXCELLENCE
As believers, we must pursue excellence in every area of our lives.
a) Excellence Reflects God's Glory (Philippians 1:10)
God desires us to be pure and blameless, excelling in what is good.
b) God Is Glorified in Our Diligence (Ecclesiastes 9:10)
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.
c) Mediocrity Is Not God's Standard (Revelation 3:16)
God rejects lukewarmness; He wants us to be passionate and excellent.
d) We Are Examples to the World (Titus 2:7)
In doctrine, behaviour, and conduct, we must reflect God’s excellence.
Biblical Example: Joseph excelled in Potiphar’s house, in prison, and in Pharaoh’s court—not because of mere skill, but because the Lord was with him and he carried the spirit of excellence (Genesis 39:2-6).
CONCLUSION:
The God we serve is the embodiment of excellence. His name, His works, His wisdom, and His ways are perfect and glorious. To walk with Him is to aspire to a higher standard—not for the praise of men, but to reflect His beauty and bring Him glory.
As children of the Most High God, we must refuse to settle for average or mediocrity in our walk with Him and in our earthly responsibilities. Excellence is not a gift for the few—it is a calling for all who bear His name. Let us rise to this call and let the world see the glory of our excellent God through us.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, reveal Your excellence in every area of my life and let my life reflect Your glory.
