Explore the profound truth, privilege, power, and glory that comes from truly believing in Christ and living out that belief daily.
Good morning, Church! As we gather today, I want to draw our attention to a powerful scripture in the book of John, Chapter 1, verse 12.
It reads:
"Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God."
The simplicity of this verse contains an immeasurable depth, a profound truth about the privilege, power, and glory of believing in Christ.
A.W. Tozer once said, "True faith rests upon the character of God and asks no further proof than the moral perfections of the One who cannot lie." This quote encapsulates what it means to believe in Christ – to fully trust in His unchanging character and His unfailing promises.
Let's open our hearts in prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father, as we delve into Your Word today, open our minds to comprehend Your truth, our hearts to receive Your love, and our spirits to rejoice in Your glory. Help us to grasp the privilege, power, and glory that come from believing in You, Lord. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Let’s dive in!
Believing in Christ is not merely an act of faith; it is a privilege. It is a divine gift that God has freely given to humanity. This privilege is not earned, it is not bought, it is not a reward for good deeds or moral uprightness. It is a gift of grace, freely given by a loving God to all who would receive it. This is the first and most fundamental aspect of the privilege of believing in Christ.
A privilege of relationship: When we believe in Christ, we are not just assenting to a set of doctrines or subscribing to a religious system. We are entering into a personal, intimate relationship with the living God. We are becoming children of God, as John 1:12 tells us. This relationship is not based on our performance or our worthiness. It is based on Christ's love for us and His sacrifice on the cross. This is a privilege of unimaginable value and worth.
A privilege of transformation: When we believe in Christ, we are not just changing our minds or our beliefs. We are being changed from the inside out. We are being made new. We are being transformed into the image of Christ. This is not a process we can accomplish on our own. It is a work of the Holy Spirit in us, made possible by our faith in Christ. This is a privilege of profound significance and impact.
A privilege of eternal life: When we believe in Christ, we are not just securing a better life here and now. We are securing life eternal. We are receiving the promise of eternity with God, a promise that begins now and extends beyond the grave. This is a privilege of eternal dimensions and implications.
A privilege of purpose: When we believe in Christ, we are not just finding a personal savior. We are finding a divine calling. We are being invited into God's mission in the world. We are being commissioned to be ambassadors of Christ, to share His love and His gospel with others. This is a privilege of divine purpose and mission.
Not exhaustive: They are merely glimpses into the vast richness of this privilege. They are invitations to delve deeper, to explore further, to experience more fully the privilege of believing in Christ.
Pastor, here would be a good place to share a personal story about some of the privileges you’ve experienced since becoming a Christian.
