2022.02.12 THE GLORY OF GOD

William Akehurst, HSWC

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God.

What is the GLORY of GOD and how can we ever measure up?

The Glory of GOD is the invisible attributes, characteristics, and qualities of GOD that are manifest and displayed in a visible or understandable way.

THE GLORY OF GOD IS HIS INVISIBLE CHARACTER MADE VISIBLE

Exodus 33:17-19 (NKJV)

17 So the LORD said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.”

18 And he said, “Please, show me Your glory.”

19 Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”

Exodus 16:7a,10b

7a And in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord…

10 …they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud.

CREATION DISPLAYS THE GLORY OF GOD

Isaiah 6:3 “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!”

Psalms 19:1-4 1 The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.

Romans 1:20-23

20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

THE GLORY OF GOD IS JESUS CHRIST

Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God…

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Hebrews 1:3 (Jesus) who being the brightness of His (FATHER GOD) glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power…

John 14:7-9 “If you had known me, you would have known my Father also… …Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”

John 14:13 “Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”

1 John 4:9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.

THE GLORY OF GOD DISPLAYED IN THE GOSPEL

2 Corinthians 4:4-6 (NKJV)

4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. 5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

WE WERE CREATED TO GLORIFY GOD – BECOME GOD’S GLORY

Genesis 1:27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Isaiah 43:7 Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory;

I have formed him, yes, I have made him.”

RESTORED FOR HIS GLORY

Romans 3:22-26 (NLT)

22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.

23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

24 Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

25 For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, 26 for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.
