The Glory
Text:
Psalms 8:1-9
1 O’ LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels [‘elohiym, GOD], and hast crowned (surrounded) him with glory and honour.
6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:(man has dominion over everything God made)
7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
9 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
·Man was created a little lower than God and was crowned with Glory and Honor
·Adam and Eve were clothed/ surrounded with the Glory of God
Gen 3:6-11
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
Before Adam sinned, He and his wife Eve walked around as God did- “Covered with God’s Glory”, now that Glory lifted from them
· A church that does not have the glory surrounding it is naked
· Churches are hiding them selves from the presence of God because they see their nakedness
The Glory cont.
God= Is Perfection covered by Glory, Man= Is Innocence covered by Glory
The thing was: Adam was more like God than he could comprehend.
He was made in the image and likeness of God, just a little lower (not a God, but Blessed of God above all the other creations
Isaiah saw a vision of God’s Glory -
Isaiah 6:1-3
1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord (Adonai) sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory [3519].
· Glory [3519] kabowd (Heavy with everything good)
· I think what Isaiah saw in the vision was the “Essence of God”
A God of fire- shining with a brilliant light
Sin consumed by the Fire, and Goodness revealed in the Light
Isaiah saw Christ, the Brightness of God’s Glory
Hebrews 1:3
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Listen again to these facts-
In the beginning before God created the heaven and the earth- all there was------- was God,-------HIS GLORY
He filled the things He created with His Glory,
· Heaven was created first, then all the angels at one time
· And a voice was given to them to sing of God’s Glory
As God created the earth all the things upon it, His Glory filled the Earth
· At first, Adam and Eve- walked around in the glory
· They spoke with God who was Glory
· There tongues joined the heavenly host in praising God
The Glory cont.
God is Glory. Glory is the essence of God.
