The main point of this sermon is that true fulfillment, satisfaction, and peace come from God alone, who offers us eternal life through belief in Jesus, the Bread of Life.
Good morning, family. Today, we're going to dive into some deep waters. We're going to talk about the power of God's Word, the call to follow Jesus, and living off the Bread of Life.
I'm reminded of a quote by C.S. Lewis, who said, "God cannot give us happiness and peace apart from Himself because it is not there. There is no such thing." It's a potent reminder that our fulfillment, our satisfaction, and our peace come from God alone.
Let's read together from John 6:25-35:
The power of the word of God is the divine authority and potency inherent in the Scriptures, the very breath of God that speaks life, truth, and direction into our lives. It is not merely a collection of words, stories, and teachings, but it is the living, active voice of God that has the power to transform, heal, and guide us.
God Himself speaking to us: In the book of John, it is written that "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." This verse reveals the divine nature of the Scriptures. The Bible is not just a book; it is the revelation of God's character, His will, His plan, and His love for humanity. When we read the Bible, we are not just reading words on a page; we are encountering God Himself.
It is truth: In a world filled with lies, deceptions, and half-truths, the Word of God stands as an unchanging beacon of truth. It provides us with a standard against which we can measure all other information. It gives us a solid foundation on which we can build our lives. The Word of God is the ultimate source of truth because it comes from God, who is the embodiment of truth. When we align our lives with the truth of God's Word, we experience the freedom and peace that comes from living in truth.
It has the ability to transform us: Hebrews 4:12 tells us that "the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." The Word of God can convict us of sin, lead us to repentance, renew our minds, and change our hearts. It can shape us into the image of Christ, enabling us to live lives that reflect His love, grace, and righteousness.
It provides guidance for our lives: Psalm 119:105 declares, "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." The Word of God illuminates our path, showing us the way we should go. It provides wisdom for life's decisions, comfort in times of sorrow, and hope in times of despair. It equips us for every good work, enabling us to live lives that are pleasing to God.
It accomplishes God's purposes: Isaiah 55:11 says, "so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." God's Word is not just words; it is His power released into the world to accomplish His divine purposes. It brings salvation, healing, deliverance, and restoration. It brings about the fulfillment of God's promises and the manifestation of His kingdom on earth.
