Summary: Nebuchadnezzar allows his anger to take over.
At that time, certain Chaldeans came forward and accused the Jews. They first reminded King Nebuchadnezzar of his decree and the punishment that would come upon anyone who didn't worship the image. They claimed that certain Jews who were set over the affairs of the province of Babylon; Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, had not paid due regarding King Nebuchadnezzar. They don't serve his gods or worship the gold image which he had set up. Daniel 3:8-12
King Nebuchadnezzar in rage and fury gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He asked if it was true that they didn't serve his gods or worship the gold image he set up. Nebuchadnezzar said if they were ready at the time they heard the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and they fall down and worship the image he had made, good. If they didn't worship, they would be cast immediately into the mist of a burning fiery furnace. Nebuchadnezzar then asked, "And who is the God who will deliver you from my hands?" Daniel 3:13-15
Many people will use manipulation and witchcraft to control another person's will. People even today will tell someone, "Do what I want, or face the consequences." And the consequences are real. Many will give into such demands believing the lie that they don't have a choice.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego told King Nebuchadnezzar, "If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up." Daniel 3:16-18
These 3 men trusted God so much that they knew no matter what the outcome was, God was still good.
Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury at this response, and he commanded that the furnace be heated 7 times than it usually was. Daniel 3:19
Sometimes in our anger, we make decisions that really don't make sense. Therefore we should not make big decisions in that condition. Anger will pass, but the decisions we make during that time will remain forever.
Nebuchadnezzar commanded certain mighty men of valor who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and cast them into the burning fiery furnace. They were bound in their coats, their trousers, their turbans, and their other garments. Because of the urgency of the king's command and the extreme heat, the men responsible for throwing the 3 men into the furnace were killed by the flames. Daniel 3:20-23
Not only can we cause harm to ourselves by allowing our anger to take over, but other people can also get hurt as well. Always remember that what you say and do in your anger can't be reversed.
