Summary: Through Jesus, we have the hope of forgiveness and salvation.

The End of the Law

Easter Morning Service, April 12, 2009

Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: Through Jesus, we have the hope of forgiveness and salvation.

Focus Passage: Romans 10:1-13

Introduction:

I. Before the cross of Jesus

a. For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins; he can deal gently with the ignorant and misguided, since he himself also is beset with weakness; and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices for sins, as for the people, so also for himself. (Hebrews 5:1-3)

b. You who boast in the Law, through your breaking the Law, do you dishonor God? (Romans 2:23)

II. The cross of Jesus

a. Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. (John 19:30)

b. For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18)

III. After the cross of Jesus

a. But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. (Galatians 6:14)

b. For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace. (Romans 6:14)

Invitation:

When I survey the wondrous cross

On which the Prince of glory died,

My richest gain I count but loss,

And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,

Save in the death of Christ my God!

All the vain things that charm me most,

I sacrifice them to His blood.

See from His head, His hands, His feet,

Sorrow and love flow mingled down!

Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,

Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

His dying crimson, like a robe,

Spreads o’er His body on the tree;

Then I am dead to all the globe,

And all the globe is dead to me.

Were the whole realm of nature mine,

That were a present far too small;

Love so amazing, so divine,

Demands my soul, my life, my all.
