Summary: Paul discusses the role of the Law in conviction and confrontation with the Sin of a person. The law of the Lord which is known as the Law of Moses is not evil, not bad, not tyrant but the person who reads it is a corrupted, sinful man, and he is bad in character and nature.

Romans 07:07-25 - The effect of Sin

Romans 7:7-11 Sin is Dead without Law

Paul discusses the role of the Law in conviction and confrontation with the Sin of a person. The law of the Lord which is known as the Law of Moses is not evil, not bad, not tyrant but the person who reads it is a corrupted, sinful man, and he is bad in character and nature. So, he feels ashamed while reading the law and could not stand before the power, rule and requirements of the Law of the Lord. Man does every sinful act out of lust, desire and bad intention. He habitually repeating those acts until he knew those acts were sinful. But while reading and meditating the Law of the Lord, he has come to know the nature of the evil, what he is committing, yet he could not come out of it. Without Law Paul was alive but when the Law came into force in his life, he became dead. Law powerfully convinces the morality, spirituality and life. So, men have no other option than repentance.

Romans 7:12-20 Law is good and Spiritual

Law is Holy because it directs its reader towards holiness. Law is righteous because it points the reader to right things, and helps to make right decisions. The Law is good because it has come from the good Lord. Therefore, the reading of the Law, knowing the commandments of the law can’t help a person to indulge in Sin, immorality, and unspiritual acts. In the light of the Law, man could not understand what he does in his life. Paul says that the sin has power to control over a person. ‘Sin is personified as Law is personified’ in this book and passage. Finally, he blames the Sin and he says that Sin has over powered him. He says he is under the influence of Sin and its consequences.

Romans 7:21-25 Inner Struggle of a Saint

The inner struggle of Paul is found in this passage. Paul is a symbolic representation of us. He has placed himself on behalf of a person who struggles on daily basis with the sinful natures and problems. The problem with humanity is desiring good but doing evil. Love to live a saint but behaving as a sinner. He talks about the struggles between the pretentions and realities of a person. Desired to be holy but in reality, always a sinner. Outer man is not reflecting the inner man of a person. They are contradictory to one another. The struggle is between the thoughts and the actions of a person. So, he says all of us wretched men on the earth. Only way out is found in Christ. Hallelujah.
