Matthew 28:5-6
Children’s Message
Easter Sunday: March 31, 2002
How many of you had an Easter Egg Hunt this year?
What is this? (Hold up an empty large plastic Easter Egg)
What are these Easter Eggs for?
People hide them. You look for them, find them and open them. Usually these kinds of eggs are filled with good stuff like candy or little presents.
What do you think is in this one?
Do you think that we should open it up to look inside?
It’s empty. There isn’t anything in it. No good stuff in there. The fact that it is empty is a good thing and this egg is empty for a reason. God gave us the very first Easter Egg 2000 years ago and it was empty too.
Matthew 28:5-6
5 The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
1. The women went expecting to find Jesus
2. The tomb was empty
3. Angels came and gave them a message from God
God’s Easter Egg was empty and that is the reason that we can have hope because Jesus is alive.
