The DISPOSITION For POSITION-II—Mark 10:35-45

Attention:

Outdoor Life

"You're in incredibly fine condition," the doctor concluded after finishing a thorough physical. "How old did you say you were, sir?"

"Seventy-eight."

"Seventy-eight! Why, you have the health of a sixty-year-old.

What's your secret?"

"I guess, Doc, it's due to a pact the wife & I made when we got married. She promised that if she was ever about to lose her temper, she'd stay in the kitchen 'till she cooled off. And I pledged that when I got angry I'd keep quiet, too, & go outside until I calmed down."

"I don't understand," said the doctor, "How could that help you stay so fit?".....

"So, "I guess you could say I've lived an outdoor life."

Need:

What is supremely difficult for anyone who ministers is that his/her ‘power & position’ is only attained thru the ‘allowance’ of others who wield power & hold position. It does not have to be officially delegated or recognized position & power.

Jesus characterized the disposition needed for holding position & power in Jesus’ disciples.

There is a proper disposition for holding position & power in Jesus’ disciples.

What is the proper disposition for position & power in Jesus’ disciples?

Our VESTMENT Disposition(:39b)

Explanation:(:39b) Committed/Devoted/Passionate

:39—“They said to Him, “We are able.” So Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, & with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized;”

Though detached from the rigors of “drinking” the same “cup” as their Lord will, they will indeed still partake fully of that “cup.” They will likewise undergo the same “baptism” as does Jesus.

And Jesus’ “cup” is martyrdom.

No matter how difficult it will become, for these disciples, they will surely undergo great distress in following Jesus so that their faith will be stretched to its very limits. Their very lives will not only be threatened but surrendered.

Israel was fully vested in her impending judgment:

Hosea 8:7-9—““They sow the wind, And reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no bud; It shall never produce meal. If it should produce, Aliens would swallow it up. Israel is swallowed up; Now they are among the Gentiles Like a vessel in which is no pleasure. For they have gone up to Assyria, Like a wild donkey alone by itself; Ephraim has hired lovers.”

Your commitment to Christ must be overwhelmingly directed. It must take precedence over everything in your life. You must be so fully Vested in God & His Christ that you will not look back!

“Indeed”—men—Particle—1) Truly, certainly, surely, indeed. Strong—a primary particle; properly--Indicative of affirmation or concession (in fact); usually followed by a contrasted clause with de[but, &, etc.] (this one, the former, etc).

Argumentation:

Acts 11:29—12:3—“Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea. This they also did, & sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas & Saul. Now about that time Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass some from the church. Then he killed James the brother of John with the sword. And because he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to seize Peter also. Now it was during the Days of Unleavened Bread.”

Col. 1:21-26—“And you, who once were alienated & enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, & blameless, & above reproach in His sight-- if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded & steadfast, & are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister. I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, & fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, the mystery which has been hidden from ages & from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints.”

Rev. 1:9—“I, John, both your brother & companion in the tribulation & kingdom & patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God & for the testimony of Jesus Christ.”

Gen. 19:17, 24-26—“So it came to pass, when they had brought them[Lot’s family] outside, that he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.””.....“Then the LORD rained brimstone & fire on Sodom & Gomorrah, from the LORD out of the heavens. So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, & what grew on the ground. But his wife looked back behind him, & she became a pillar of salt.”
