This sermon explores the transformative power of recognizing, responding to, and revering the Lordship of Christ in our lives.

Introduction

Good morning, dear friends. We gather here, not as strangers, but as a family, united in our shared love for Christ. Today, we turn our attention to a profound truth, a truth that is as simple as it is profound. We are here to recognize, respond to, and revere the Lordship of Christ.

Opening Scripture Reading – Let us now turn to the Holy Scriptures. In Romans 10:9 we read, 'If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.' And in 2 Corinthians 4:5, Paul tells us, 'For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.' These passages remind us of the centrality of Christ's Lordship in our faith and our lives.

Opening Prayer – As we prepare to delve deeper into this topic, let us bow our heads in prayer. Heavenly Father, we come before You today with humble hearts and open minds. We ask that You would reveal to us the depth of the truth we are about to consider. May Your Holy Spirit guide us, enlighten us, and lead us into a deeper understanding of what it means to recognize, respond to, and revere the Lordship of Christ. We pray that the words we hear today would not just inform us, but transform us. May they move us to live lives worthy of the calling we have received, to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

Recognizing the Lordship of Christ

The Lordship of Christ is a recognition that Jesus Christ is not just our Savior, but also our Master and King. This understanding is fundamental to our Christian faith. It is not just about knowing who Jesus is, but about submitting to His authority and His will in every aspect of our lives.

A. The first aspect we need to consider is the authority of Christ. When we say that Jesus is Lord, we are acknowledging His absolute authority over all creation, including our lives. The Bible tells us in Colossians 1:16, 'For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.' This means that Jesus has the ultimate authority over everything that exists. He is the one who holds all power and dominion.

Recognizing Christ's authority should lead us to a life of obedience. As believers, we are called to live in obedience to Christ's commands. In John 14:15, Jesus says, 'If you love me, keep my commands.' This means that our love for Christ is demonstrated by our obedience to Him. It is not enough to simply acknowledge Christ's Lordship; we must also live it out in our daily lives.
