When God chose the day to make His presence known to all the world – He shook the heavens & the earth!
Haggai 2:7 “I will shake the nations and fill this house with glory.”
Scripture reveals that Jesus’ death & resurrection were accompanied by earthquakes.
These 2 events occurred just 3 days apart and they shook the world with great power and might.
>Let’s take a look the supernatural occurrence that happened on the day Jesus died. >Matthew 27:50-51<
>A sudden shaking of the earth occurred at the exact moment Jesus died.
>The earth shook and the rocks split!
>God made His presence known – It’s as if He was saying, “Wake up and pay attention!”
>The earthquake announced God’s presence as His only begotten Son was being sacrificed for sin.
Scripture tells how God earlier made His presence known in an earthquake. (Exodus 19:18)
“Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and its
smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently.”
God made His presence known and shook the earth to reveal His wrath to man for their sin.
In all His power and might, God shook the earth in divine expression of His anger over man’s sinfulness.
God revealed the truth of the sacrifice made by His only begotten Son.
The earthquake proclaimed the Lamb of God, who died to paid the full wages of sin on our behalf.
The debt for our sin had been paid in full – The redeeming work of Christ was complete.
>Now let’s look ahead just three days later. >Matthew 28:1-6<
In all His sovereignty, God expressed His great joy by shaking the earth once again.
>1988 Earthquake game in Tiger Stadium (Touchdown pass from Tommy Hodson to Eddie Fuller)
The resurrection of Jesus Christ set off the most glorious earthquakes the world has ever known.
>This was truly a day that shook the world.
Jesus arose from the dead! Death had been defeated!
>Holy Communion<
>Today we get to celebrate the joy of the resurrection as we celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion.
>Today, we celebrate the resurrection with joy, for we were once dead, but now we have life. (Romans 6:4)
"Therefore, we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was
raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.”
>God is still shaking the world today through the power of the resurrection.
>Is Jesus Christ alive in your heart today?
>Are you ready to live in the power of the resurrection?
