INTRODUCTION:
The glory of God is the visible manifestation of His presence, majesty, and holiness. He is jealous over His glory and will not share it with any man. From creation to redemption, God's glory has always been paramount. Many today walk a dangerous path by taking the honour due to God for themselves—whether through pride, self-exaltation, or failure to acknowledge His hand in their lives. This sermon serves as a sobering reminder that stealing God’s glory has grave consequences.
Throughout Scripture, those who ascribe God’s works to their own strength or wisdom are swiftly judged. Conversely, those who glorify God attract His favour. As believers, we must be careful to point all praise, honour, and recognition to Him in all things.
1. THE GLORY OF GOD BELONGS TO HIM ALONE
a) God is a jealous God
God’s jealousy is not envy, but a zeal for His name and glory. He does not tolerate idolatry or pride. (Exodus 34:14)
b) God created all things for His glory
Everything, including mankind, was made to reflect and declare God's majesty. (Isaiah 43:7)
c) God does not share His glory with anyone
To attempt to take God’s glory is to position oneself as an idol. (Isaiah 42:8)
d) All achievements should point back to God
No matter how talented or hardworking we are, it is God who enables all success. (1 Corinthians 15:10)
Biblical Example: King Nebuchadnezzar
He boasted in his power, but God humbled him until he gave glory to the Most High. (Daniel 4:30-37)
2. WAYS PEOPLE ROB GOD OF HIS GLORY
a) Taking credit for divine results
When God answers prayers or grants breakthroughs, yet we claim it’s by our own effort. (Deuteronomy 8:17-18)
b) Glorifying men instead of God
Idolising leaders or being overly self-promotional shifts glory away from God. (Jeremiah 17:5)
c) Pride and self-exaltation
When one becomes puffed up, believing they are the source of their blessings. (Proverbs 16:18)
d) Ungratefulness
Failure to return thanks to God is dishonouring to Him. (Luke 17:17-18)
Biblical Example: Herod Agrippa
He accepted worship as a god and was struck down instantly. (Acts 12:21-23)
3. DANGERS OF STEALING GOD'S GLORY
a) Divine judgment and demotion
God actively resists the proud and brings them low. (James 4:6)
b) Loss of divine backing
When glory is taken from God, His presence may withdraw. (1 Samuel 15:23-28)
c) Open door to demonic affliction
Pride gives the devil a foothold. (Proverbs 16:18)
d) Shame and destruction
Those who steal God's glory eventually fall from grace. (Proverbs 11:2)
Biblical Example: Lucifer
Desired God’s glory and was cast down from heaven. (Isaiah 14:12-15)
4. HOW TO GIVE GLORY TO GOD IN ALL THINGS
a) Acknowledge God as your Source
In speech and action, attribute every success to Him. (Proverbs 3:6)
b) Remain humble and teachable
True humility brings exaltation by God. (1 Peter 5:6)
c) Always return thanks and testify
Publicly sharing testimonies glorifies God and edifies others. (Psalm 105:1-2)
d) Use your gifts to honour God, not self
Talent is a trust, not a trophy. (Matthew 5:16)
Biblical Example: Apostle Paul
Despite his success, he always attributed everything to God. (1 Corinthians 15:10)
5. BENEFITS OF GIVING GOD THE GLORY
a) Divine multiplication and favour
God increases those who glorify Him. (John 15:8)
b) Greater manifestations of His presence
God inhabits the praises of His people. (Psalm 22:3)
c) Protection from pride and downfall
Giving God glory keeps you grounded in grace. (James 4:10)
d) Open doors for more testimonies
Testifying attracts fresh miracles. (Revelation 12:11)
Biblical Example: The healed leper who returned
He glorified Jesus and received wholeness. (Luke 17:15-19)
CONCLUSION:
To rob God of His glory is a grave sin that can attract judgment. We must constantly examine ourselves, ensuring that all praise, honour, and recognition go to Him alone. When we glorify God, He glorifies Himself in our lives. Let us live in a way that exalts His name in all we do.
