Summary: So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.

1. THE GRUMBLING.

But the people grew impatient on the way;

5they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!”

• Patience is a virtue.

• When we become impatience, we are susceptible to think and speak negatively.

• Speaking against God and God’s servant is very dangerous.

• God takes grumbling seriously.

• Murmuring against God is rebelling against God.

• Miriam became leprous when she spoke against Moses.

(Numbers 12)

• The 40 children were devoured by two bears when they insulted Elisha.(2 Kings 2)

1 Thessalonians 5:18

18give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

2. THE PUNISHMENT.

6Then the LORD sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died.

• Snakes are the punishment of God in the grumbling of God’s people.

• Punishment of death.

Proverbs 16:5

5The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.

Proverbs 11:21

21Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free.

3. THE CURE

.

7The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the LORD and against you. Pray that the LORD will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. 8The LORD said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.”

9So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.

• God used anti venom .

• The cure was the figure of snake itself.

• The cure was the result of acceptance of wrong and repentance from sin.

1 john 1:9

• The Brazen serpent shows us about forgiveness and salvation.

• It is evident that Moses used the lifting up of the serpent to represent healing through Christ.

John 3:14-15

14Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,

15that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”
