The Crown Of Thorns

Summary: This message reminds of the immeasurable sufferings of our Lord for our sins.
Introduction: The Crown of Thorns are a depiction of evil mankind at its worse. There was no need for man to reach such an extreme amid all the other disgusting things that they had already did to Our Lord. In our text, we will look at the many things the bible says about thorns and thier significance throughout scriptures:
I. THE ORIGIN OF THORNS. (Gen. 3:17-19)
Two innocent people
Adam
Eve
No thorns
Two guilty people
Eve
Adam
Birth of thorns
II. THE CAUSE OF THORNS.
Adam obeyed Eve instead of God.
Adam ate of the forbidden tree.
Results:
Sin
Sickness
Sorrow
Sweat
Suffering
III. THORNS ENTERED THE HISTORY OF GOD’S PEOPLE.
Note the expression: “Thorn in the side.”
IV. FALSE TEACHERS PRODUCE THORNS AND THISTLES.
Matt. 7:15-19
V. THORNS WILL CHOKE THOSE WHO ARE NOT DEEPLY ROOTED IN THE WORD.
Matt. 13:3-9
VI. CONSTANT AGITATION OF THORNS.
2 Cor. 12:7-9
VII. THE SWAPPING OF THE CROWNS. HE WORE OUR CROWN SO WE COULD WEAR HIS.
2 Tim 4:8-8.
VIII. WHAT DOES THE CROWN OF THORNS TEACH US?
I. THE WOES OF SIN.
II. THE WAGES OF SIN.
III. THE WICKEDNESS OF MAN.
IV. THE WORKS OF THE FLESH.
V. THE WILLINGESS OF GOD.
VI. THE WAYS OF GOD.
VII. THE WISDOM OF GOD.
VIII. THE WORD OF GOD.
IX. THE WITNESS OF EARTH.
X. THE WORTH OF THE SOUL.
Conclusion: I have no right to wear a “Crown of Gold”, while my Lord wore a “Crown of Thorns.”
