THE COVENANT OF PEACE: LIVING FREE FROM WORRY

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Text: Isaiah 54:10

“For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.”

Supporting Text: Philippians 4:6-7

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

INTRODUCTION:

Peace is not the absence of trouble but the presence of God in the midst of it. In today’s fast-moving and fear-driven world, many live with constant anxiety. But God has made a covenant of peace with His children—a divine agreement to keep us calm, unshaken, and inwardly stable regardless of the storms around.

This peace is not man-made; it is a gift from God that defies logic. It is not just peace from war or noise, but a deep, inner rest even when life is chaotic. Through Jesus Christ, every believer has access to this covenant. God does not want us to live in worry but in divine tranquillity.

Today, we will explore how to enjoy this covenant of peace and live free from worry.

1. UNDERSTAND THAT PEACE IS YOUR COVENANT RIGHT

Jesus purchased peace for us on the cross. He is called the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).

Peace is not something we beg for; it is part of our inheritance in Christ.

The moment you gave your life to Jesus, peace became your covenant portion.

Illustration: In Mark 4:39, when the storm raged on the sea, Jesus stood up and said, “Peace, be still.” Immediately, the wind ceased. That same Jesus lives in you. If He could calm the storm then, He can calm your heart now.

2. CAST YOUR CARES ON GOD THROUGH PRAYER

Worry thrives where prayer is absent. Philippians 4:6 tells us not to worry about anything, but to pray about everything.

Prayer transfers your burdens from your hands to God’s. Worry multiplies pressure; prayer multiplies peace.

Illustration: Hannah, in 1 Samuel 1:10-18, was distressed and bitter in soul, but after pouring her heart to God in prayer, the Bible says “her countenance was no more sad.” She found peace before the miracle came.

3. GUARD YOUR HEART AND MIND WITH THE WORD

Peace begins in the heart and mind. If you don’t protect what enters your thoughts, worry will dominate your life.

Isaiah 26:3 says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.”

Focus on God’s promises, not the problem.

Illustration: When Goliath terrorised Israel, the whole army panicked. But David, filled with the Word and confidence in God, declared, “The Lord will deliver me.” His mind was guarded, and his peace unshaken (1 Samuel 17).

4. REFUSE TO FEED YOUR FEARS

Faith and fear both come by hearing. What you constantly expose yourself to will either build peace or worry.

Switch off the noise of fear—bad news, negative voices, faithless conversations—and feed on the Word of peace.

Romans 10:17 – “So then faith cometh by hearing...”

Illustration: In Numbers 13:33, ten spies brought a fearful report that troubled the hearts of the people. But Caleb silenced the fear, saying, “We are well able to overcome.” Choose what voice you feed.

5. WALK DAILY WITH THE PRINCE OF PEACE

Peace is not just a condition—it is a person. Jesus said, “My peace I give unto you...” (John 14:27).

The more you fellowship with Him, the more you experience His peace. Don’t skip intimacy with God—peace flows from presence.

Illustration: In Luke 10:38-42, Martha was anxious and troubled about many things. But Mary sat at Jesus’ feet and found rest. One was restless; the other found peace by staying close.

CONCLUSION:

Beloved, peace is your covenant right. Don’t live in worry. The storms may rage, but the covenant of peace is stronger. Trust God, pray without ceasing, protect your mind with His Word, silence fear, and stay close to Jesus—the Prince of Peace.

Your situation may not change immediately, but your heart can be calm through it all. Worry does not solve tomorrow’s problems; it steals today’s peace. Receive and walk in your divine covenant of peace.

ALTAR CALL:

Are you troubled and far from God? True peace begins with Jesus. Without Him, worry and fear will rule your life. Say:

“Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I surrender my life to You. Forgive me all my sins and give me Your peace. Come into my heart and be my Lord and Saviour. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.”

PRAYER POINTS:

1.  Father, thank You for the covenant of peace through Jesus Christ.

2.   Lord, deliver me from every spirit of anxiety and fear.
