THE CONTRAST OF ADAM’S SIN AND CHRIST’S OBEDIENCE
Text: Romans 5:12-21
Introduction:
As Adam's Sin Has Affected All People, So Jesus Christ's Obedience Has Affected All Believers.
Body:
I. ONE TRESPASS IN THE GARDEN
Trespass - To commit any offense or to do any act that injures or annoys another; to violate any rule of rectitude to the injury of another.
a. Everyone Has Sinned v. 12
Rom 5:12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned
b. Death Ruled Over All Human Beings v. 14
Rom 5:14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.
c. Many People Died Because Of The Sin v. 15
Rom 5:15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man's trespass.
d. After The One Sin, Came The Judgment Of "Guilty" V. 16
Rom 5:16 And the free gift is not like the result of that one man's sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation.
e. Through The Sin Of One Man Death Began To Rule v.17
Rom 5:17 For if, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man.
f. One Sin Condemned All People V. 18
Rom 5:18 Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men.
II. ONE RIGHTEOUS ACT ON THE CROSS
a. Believers will be Justified (by Faith) v.15
Rom 5:15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.
b. Believers will be delivered from many offences v.16
Rom 5:16 And there is a difference between God's gift and the sin of one man. After the one sin, came the judgment of "Guilty"; but after so many sins, comes the undeserved gift of "Not guilty!"
c. Believers will be received abundant grace v.17
Rom 5:17 It is true that through the sin of one man death began to rule because of that one man. But how much greater is the result of what was done by the one man, Jesus Christ! All who receive God's abundant grace and are freely put right with him will rule in life through Christ.
d. Believers will have life and freedom v.18
Rom 5:18 So then, as the one sin condemned all people, in the same way the one righteous act sets all people free and gives them life.
e. Believers will enter the Kingdom of heaven v.19
Rom 5:19 And just as all people were made sinners as the result of the disobedience of one man, in the same way they will all be put right with God as the result of the obedience of the one man.
f. Believers will have eternal life v.21
Rom 5:21 So then, just as sin ruled by means of death, so also God's grace rules by means of righteousness, leading us to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Conclusion:
As Adam's Sin Has Affected All People, So Jesus Christ's Obedience Has Affected All Believers. Thus, the power of Christ's act of obedience is to overcome Adam's act of disobedience
