Summary: Marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God, and husbands are commanded to love and cherish their wives.

Marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God, and husbands are commanded to love and cherish their wives. However, some men mistreat and abuse their wives, causing harm and suffering. The Bible addresses this issue, warning of consequences for those who mistreat their wives. In this sermon, we'll explore the biblical perspective on the consequences of mistreating and abusing your wife.

1. God's Wrath (Ephesians 5:25-33)

Husbands who mistreat their wives will face God's wrath, as they are disobeying His command to love and cherish their wives.

2. Loss of God's Blessing (1Peter 3:71 )

Abusing your wife can lead to a loss of God's blessing in your life and marriage, as God will not bless disobedience.

3. Destruction of Marriage (Malachi 2:13-16)

Mistreating your wife can lead to the destruction of your marriage, as God hates divorce and will not tolerate abuse.

4. Spiritual Consequences (1 Corinthians 3:16-17)

Abusing your wife can lead to spiritual consequences, including spiritual blindness and separation from God.

5. Physical Consequences (Proverbs 21:9)

Mistreating your wife can lead to physical consequences, including injury and even death.

6. Emotional Consequences (Proverbs 12:4)

Abusing your wife can lead to emotional consequences, including depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem.

7. Social Consequences (Leviticus 18:18)

Mistreating your wife can lead to social consequences, including social isolation and loss of reputation.

8. Eternal Consequences (Revelation 21:8)

Abusing your wife can lead to eternal consequences, including eternal separation from God in hell.

Scripture References:

- Ephesians 5:25-33 - Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

- 1 Peter 3:7 - Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

- Malachi 2:13-16 - You cover the Lord's altar with tears, with weeping and groaning because he no longer looks at the offering or accepts it with favor from your hand. You ask, "Why?" It is because the Lord is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.

- 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 - Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy that person; for God's temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.

- Proverbs 21:9 - Better to live on a corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.

- Proverbs 12:4 - A virtuous woman brings honor to her husband, but a wife who disgraces him is like decay in his bones.

- Leviticus 18:18 - Do not take your wife's sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is living.

- Revelation 21:8 - But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.

Mistreating and abusing your wife has severe consequences, both in this life and the next. As husbands, we must love and cherish our wives, treating them with respect and kindness. Remember, God hates abuse and will not tolerate it. Let us strive to build healthy, loving marriages that honor God.
