Summary: A message on the role of the Holy Spirit as comforter in our lives.
THE COMFORTER
John 15:26
INTRO: We all have need at various times for the Comforting power that
only God can give to us. This power can help us in so many ways, and it can be ours if we will just ask for it.
I. HE COMES FROM GOD.
A. Text verse John 15:26.
B. Sent in the name of Christ (14:26).
C. Given by Christ (14:26).
D. How long will He remain? (14:26)
ILLUS: We pick a chair that will hold us up, why not pick the Holy Comforter who can do even more?
II. WHEN IS HE NEEDED?
A. In time of sorrow. We most often seek His help at this time.
B. In time of temptation. We need Him most at this time.
C. In time of sickness. He can be a real help at this time.
D. In time of happiness. We really need Him then, lest we slip
and fall.
III. HOW HE HELPS
A. He gives us reassurance.
1. We get down in the dumps and wonder if God really cares about
us.
2. Isaiah 66:13 tells us that God will comfort us just as a mother
comforts her child.
B. He gives us confidence.
1. Use the chair illustration again.
2. We can have confidence that the Holy Comforter will hold us
up through our trials.
3. Hope (John 16:33).
CONC: You can have the Holy Comforter abiding with you today if you will
just ask Him to come into your heart and life. Don’t try to make it through this life alone, when you can have so great a help as Christ offers to you.
