In the workplace, it's not uncommon for individuals who stand out from the crowd to attract attention – both positive and negative. As believers, we know that we're chosen by God for a purpose, and this can sometimes lead to jealousy from others. Let's explore this phenomenon through a biblical lens.

Biblical Examples of Jealousy

1. Joseph and His Brothers: In Genesis 37, we see how Joseph's brothers were jealous of the favor shown to him by their father, Jacob. This jealousy ultimately led to them selling Joseph into slavery.

2. David and King Saul: In 1 Samuel 18, we see how King Saul became jealous of David's success and popularity. This jealousy led to Saul's attempts to kill David.

3. Jesus and the Pharisees: In the New Testament, we see how the Pharisees were jealous of Jesus' popularity and authority. This jealousy ultimately contributed to their plot to crucify Him (Matthew 27:18).

Why Chosen Ones Attract Jealous People

1. Favor and Blessing: When God blesses and favors someone, it can be perceived as unfair or undeserved by others. This can lead to jealousy and resentment.

2. Differentiation: Chosen ones often stand out from the crowd due to their unique gifts, talents, or calling. This differentiation can make others feel insecure or inadequate.

3. Spiritual Warfare: The Bible warns us about the reality of spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:12). Jealousy can be a tool used by Satan to undermine the plans and purposes of God.

How to Respond to Jealousy

1. Humility and Kindness: Respond to jealousy with humility and kindness. Show others that your success is not a threat, but rather an opportunity for them to grow and learn.

2. Prayer and Forgiveness: Pray for those who are jealous, and seek to forgive them as needed. This can help to diffuse tension and create a more positive work environment.

3. Focus on Your Calling: Stay focused on your calling and purpose. Don't let the jealousy of others distract you from your goals and aspirations.

As chosen ones, we can expect to face jealousy from others. However, by responding with humility, kindness, and prayer, we can navigate these situations effectively and continue to fulfill our calling.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to navigate the challenges of jealousy in the workplace. Give me wisdom and discernment to respond in a way that honors You. Help me to stay focused on my calling and to be a blessing to those around me. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
