The Blood that Ran…

Part 2- The Blood in the garden

Text Luke 22:44

Luke 22:44 (KJV) And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Recap part 1.

Intro: We now find ourselves in this story in a place where we see Jesus in a garden. Just hours from Death just hours from his blood shedding experience.

We find Jesus in turmoil in a place of utter agony the bible says.

Now the reason that Jesus was in the garden to pray on the night before his crucifixion was not coincident it was mandated by GOD.

The reason was that in the garden is where man lost his salvation and was sentenced in Gen. 3:19 “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; …” to the punishment of working for a living if you will. God made him work by the sweat of his brow.

So in turn Jesus in the garden shed his blood by the sweat of his brow to win back man’s favor for God.

I. The work of Jesus.

Mat 4:24 (KJV) And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

a. We often think of the works that Jesus did

b. We know that through the study of scripture (mark 6:3) and through the study of history (jewish tradition that the son followed his fathers occupation) that Jesus was a carpenter.

c. So we know that he had to live by sweat of his brow (before he went into the ministry)

d. We know of the miracles that he did. (to name a few)

1. water to wine – John 2:9

2. Draught of fishes – Luke 5:6

3. Peters mother-in-law healed – Luke 4:38

4. Cleansing the leper – Matthew 8:3

5. The centurion’s servant – Matthew 8:5

6. Raising Jairus daughter – Matthew 9:18

7. Tribute money – Matthew 17:24

8. Feeding the 5000 – Matthew 14:15

9. Feeding the 4000 – Matthew 15:32

e. But what about the time he prayed for you and I?

f. John 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

g. That would be you and I today

h. His work was not limited to what some want to preach but his work was only limited to the words the he spoke in John 3:16-17

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

i. The work of Jesus was for no other reason but to save the lost in a dying world.

j. “you must serve a living savior to save a dying world.”

The second time that Jesus bleed for us was in the Garden of Gethsemane

II. Jesus’ prayer time

a. (vs. 41) Jesus went as the bible says “…about a stone’s cast…”

b. Jesus was removing all obstacles from his NATURAL life in order to walk into the presence of GOD almighty

c. We too should remove all obstacles that hinder us.

1. We can’t pray while watching tv.

2. We can’t pray while reading a book.

3. We can’t pray while visiting with our spouse or kids

4. We must steal away a time to pray find a place where just and God are and there you can pray have supplication with GOD.

d. This was a special time for Jesus, for he knew the hours to come.

e. He did not want to go to the end that he went to.

f. He would have rather had Adam not ever sin.

g. “Not my will but thine be done”

h. The flesh said no but the spirit said yes.

i. In the message part 1 of this series I made mention to the fact that Jesus while on the cross hanging suspended between earth and heaven said the words “IT IS FINISHED”. Well that had to do with what he was battling here in the garden as well.

j. He was battling a battle of the flesh in the garden.

k. He was working hard not to go.

l. Three times he went to God and in prayer and agony he cried to ABBA FATHER. “IF IT BE POSSIBLE LET THIS CUP PASS FROM ME”

m. He was saying on the cross my work is done.
