INTRODUCTION:
The presence of God is the most valuable treasure a believer can carry. It is not just a spiritual experience but a divine atmosphere where transformation, revelation, and manifestation take place. The presence of God is not limited to a physical location—it is a realm of communion, where God dwells with those who seek Him earnestly. Psalm 16:11 reminds us that in God’s presence there is fullness of joy and at His right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Throughout the Bible, those who dwelt in God’s presence experienced divine intervention, supernatural peace, direction, and victory. Moses refused to go forward without it. David longed for it more than life itself. Jesus lived constantly in the presence of His Father, drawing strength and clarity for every mission. The presence of God is not optional for the believer—it is essential.
Yet in today’s world filled with distractions, many have substituted programmes for presence, and performance for power. But when we return to God's presence with sincerity, hunger, and worship, we rediscover the blessings that come from abiding in Him. Let us now consider what these blessings are and how to walk continually in His presence.
1. THE PRESENCE OF GOD BRINGS FULNESS OF JOY
a) God’s presence satisfies the soul (Psalm 16:11)
True and lasting joy is not found in possessions or achievements but in nearness to God.
b) Joy flows from intimacy with the Father (John 15:11)
When we abide in Him, His joy becomes our strength and stability.
c) The joy of God’s presence gives strength for life’s challenges (Nehemiah 8:10)
This divine joy empowers believers to endure trials and remain hopeful.
d) God’s presence lifts depression and heaviness (Isaiah 61:3)
Worship and communion with God replace mourning with garments of praise.
e) Biblical Example: David danced with joy before the Ark because he valued the presence of God more than public opinion (2 Samuel 6:14-16).
2. THE PRESENCE OF GOD BRINGS DIVINE DIRECTION
a) God leads His people from His presence (Exodus 33:14)
His presence provides rest and guidance for every decision and journey.
b) Confusion disappears when we dwell in His presence (Psalm 73:16-17)
The psalmist found understanding only when he entered the sanctuary of God.
c) God’s presence speaks peace to every storm (Isaiah 30:21)
He gives clear instructions and assurance in times of uncertainty.
d) In His presence, we receive spiritual insight and discernment (Proverbs 3:5-6)
We are directed by the Spirit, not our senses, when we walk closely with God.
e) Biblical Example: Paul received direction to go to Macedonia through a vision while waiting in the presence of God (Acts 16:9-10).
3. THE PRESENCE OF GOD BRINGS PROTECTION AND SECURITY
a) God becomes a refuge for those who dwell in His presence (Psalm 91:1-2)
His shadow shields us from the arrows of the enemy and the traps of the wicked.
b) Divine presence drives out fear (Isaiah 41:10)
When God is near, fear has no hold over us.
c) The presence of God is a defence system against demonic attacks (Psalm 34:7)
Angels encamp around those who dwell in reverent awe of Him.
d) Safety is found not in location, but in habitation (Proverbs 18:10)
God’s name and presence are strong towers that keep His people secure.
e) Biblical Example: The three Hebrew boys were untouched in the fire because God’s presence was with them (Daniel 3:24-25).
4. THE PRESENCE OF GOD BRINGS REVIVAL AND REFRESHING
a) Times of refreshing come from the Lord’s presence (Acts 3:19)
Repentance and revival flow from renewed intimacy with God.
b) God’s presence restores weary souls (Matthew 11:28-29)
Believers find rest and restoration when they come into His presence.
c) There is supernatural renewal in God's presence (Isaiah 40:31)
He renews strength like the eagle when we wait on Him.
d) The Spirit of God revives the dry and broken places (Ezekiel 37:4-10)
Even dead situations receive life where His presence is welcome.
e) Biblical Example: When Solomon dedicated the temple, God's presence filled the house, causing the priests to fall under His glory (2 Chronicles 5:13-14).
CONCLUSION:
The blessings of God's presence cannot be overstated—it is the environment where miracles happen, peace reigns, guidance flows, and lives are transformed. God is not calling us to visit His presence occasionally; He is inviting us to dwell there daily. His presence must become our dwelling place, not our emergency room.
As we prioritise God's presence above all else, we will begin to walk in the reality of Psalm 16:11—where joy is full, peace is abundant, and every step is led by His hand. Let us cherish this privilege and daily press into His presence with worship, obedience, and hunger.
