I. THE SPIRITUAL LIFE REVIEWED: v.1-3 Note that the life of the Righteous...is Declared Firstly & Fully Contrasting how little is being said for the life of the unrighteous. 1. THE DISPOSITION OF THE GODLY MAN "Blessed is the man" A. A Plural Word "happy, happy" Solomon tried women, wine, wealth, & worldly wisdom. He concludes all is vanity. B. A Personal Word "Blessed is the man" what man? Any Man that trusts in Christ, & Every Man that trusts in Christ C. A Powerful Word "Blessed" it is the highest degree spoken of ; it is functional regardless of circumstances. Job 13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him. 2. THE DISCIPLINE OF THE GODLY MAN "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful." A. He Steps In Opposition To Their Counsel Note : - [a] The Character Of The "ungodly" 1. He doesn’t Believe like the wicked – "walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly," Psalms 53:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. 2. He doesn’t Behave like the wicked – 2 Cor. 5:17 " Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 3. He doesn’t Belong with the wicked – 2 Cor. 6:17 " Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you," [b] The Counsel Of The "ungodly" cast off restraints Psalm 2 :1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. [c] The Calamity Of The "ungodly" 4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Theirs Is A : - 1. PERIL TO BE FOUND v.4 "The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away." Their : - A. Contrast Is Made "not so" B. Character Is Manifest "like chaff" [a] weightless [b] worthless [c] wind-tossed [d] wasted C. Course Is Marked "driveth AWAY" 2. PUNISHMENT TO BE FACED v.5 "Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment," A. Because Of The Justice Of God B. The Judgement Of God 3. PARTING TO BE FEARED v.5 "shall not stand in the judgment," The :- A. False Security Of Their Present State [a] Take Security In Provisions Lu.12 [b] Take Security In Position Jn.8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. His Study Of The Word and in his law doth he meditate day and night "meditate" to murmur; to speak over and over * Study is the work of the Mind, Meditation is the work of the heart * Study results in Intelligence of the Subject, Meditation with Intimacy with the Subject * Study is designed to bring Conclusions, Meditation is designed to bring Consecration C. His Stabilty Through The Word Psa.119........ [a] The Counsel It Gives v 92 Unless thy law [had been] my delights I should then have perished in mine affliction. [b] The Conduct It Defines 9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. [c] The Comfort It Provides 105; Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. [d] The Companions It Makes 133 Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me. 4. THE DISTINCTION OF THE GODLY MAN v.3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. A. His Prominence "like a tree" Psa.92:12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree:he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. [The Palm Tree] Grows in hostile environment; desert It's shadow shelters; It's fruit refreshes; It's appearance testifies to the presence of water. B. His Productivity See..."bringeth forth his fruit in his season" Psa.92:13-15 Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; 15 To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him. [a] Produces Characteristically always relative to its nature [b] Produces Consistently "season" [c] Produces Continually they say best dates come when tree is 30-100 yrs 14 They shall still bring forth fruit in old age [d] Produces Convincingly 15 To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him. E. His Preservation "his leaf also shall not wither" F. His Prosperity "and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."
