The Bible: "A Sword With Two Edges!" Series
Contributed by Kyle Sullivan on Jun 16, 2011 (message contributor)
Summary: Sermon Series I preach when our Church went through Rick Warren's C.L.A.S.S. Christian Life And Service Seminars Thanks to Rick Warren for the Foundation of this Sermon Series
Jeremiah 23:29 "Is not My word like fire'--the LORD'S declaration--'and like a sledgehammer that pulverizes rock?" (HCSB)
Your respect for God can be measured by your respect for the Bible!
Hebrews 4:12-13 "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account." (NIV)
Key:
The word of God is "Alive"!
The word of God is "Active"!
1 Peter 1:23 "For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God." (NLT)
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE WORD OF GOD ACTS:
1. THE WORD CUTS US OPEN!
The word of God does not divide the Soul from the Spirit; but rather it penetrates both the Soul and the Spirit.
Romans 7:7 "Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, "You must not covet." (NLT)
Only the Bible can show us who we really are, rather than the person we perceive ourselves to be.
2. THE WORD LAYS US BARE!
The word of God is like an X-ray that reveals who we really are!
Romans 7:18 "For I know that nothing good lives in me, this is, in my flesh. For the desire to do what is good is with me, but there is no ability to do it." (HCSB)
Question: Are you allowing the Word of God to work in your life?
3. THE WORD HEALS US!
Know the Lord will never leave you on the operating table unattended!
Hebrews 4:16 "Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." (NIV)
Question: Is the Word of God reigning in your life?
