The Betrayal, Denial And Trial Of Christ

We enter Chapter 18, a new section of this gospel. Even though we see Him in humiliation and suffering, the emphasis is on his dignity, power, and glory.

Verse 1, Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus’ Place of Prayer

Judas, the betrayer. The hypocrite.

Verse 5, the betrayal, changed sides. Separated himself.

Verse 5, the betrayed, Jesus himself.

Verse 6, Jesus' Power Over His Enemies.

Verse 8, Jesus Love for His Own Disciples.

Desire to deliver Jesus defended by an enthusiastic friends.

The Lord always has one who will stand up for Him.

Peter was acting on impulse, without authority.

Verse 11, Jesus’ Submission to Father’s Will.

He didn’t shirk his responsibility, in face of false accusers. He was faithful unto death, 15:18

Verses 12-14, He Was Led as a Lamb, Tried by the Religious Crowd.

They wanted religion without blood sacrifice.

Verses 15-27, Jesus Denied by Peter.

Predicted by Jesus. He knows all about us.

There are many ways to deny Jesus. We can deny with our tongue, Proverbs 16:28.

We can deny with our feet or general conduct.

When our acts or behavior is more in keeping with the enemies of Christ than with is word and teachings it is practically a denial of Him, verses 17,25,27.

Verses 28-40, Jesus, the Great Judge of all the Earth Before the Judge of Judea.

Verses 31-32, Pilate Seeking to Shift His Responsibility.

Verse 39, Attempts to Compromise.
