The Believers Anointing Series
Contributed by Pastor/Author: Terry Sisney on Jul 30, 2002 (message contributor)
Summary: The anointing of the believer is the same anointing that was upon Jesus Christ, It is the mighty Power of the Holy Spirit. To do the works of Jesus we must have the same power he had, and we do through the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
(Eph 6:10) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
(This discourse begins almost with this premise accepted as common knowledge)
(Our strength is found in our relationship with God through the power of his Spirit)
From the apostles perspective everything begins here, he doesn’t even begin to mention the armor until we are #1 in the Lord #2 In the power of his might = His Holy Spirit.
The armor of the believer is spiritual armor, Our warfare is a spiritual warfare.
This armor is only effective through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Just as the word of God is only effective through the power of the Holy Spirit (so also must the armor be worn in the power of the Holy Spirit).
(Luke 24:49) And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
(Acts 1:8) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
(Eph 3:16) That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
(Eph 3:20) Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church throughout all ages, world without end amen.
Read Col 1:9-11
(11) Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power
(Eph 5:18 ) And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
This is as much a command of God as: ( love not the world neither the things that are in the world). (Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel.) ( Bless them that curse you and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you). From your heart forgive those that trespass against you.
(These are all Holy commands, not sacred suggestions)
You cannot ignore the command to be filled with the spirit and have Gods approval and Gods blessings and Gods power.
In John 10:10 Jesus said he came to bring us life of a supernatural and super abundant Nature, (This life is in the power of the Holy Spirit).
(Out of your bellies shall flow rivers of living waters thus spake he of the Holy Ghost).
As Followers and disciples of Christ we are expected to do the same things Jesus did.
(John 14:12) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Mk 16:15-18
These signs shall follow them that believe, In my name they shall cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues, they shall take up serpents, if they drink anything it shall not hurt them, they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.
How did Jesus do what he did?
(Mat 12:28 ) But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
(Acts 10:38) How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
We are commissioned to do the same works that Jesus did.
(John 20:21) Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
(1 John 3:8 ) For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
The only way to destroy the works of the devil is to have more power than he has, and the only way for you and I to have more power than the devil is through the power of the Holy Spirit.
We must find our strength in the power and the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
(2 Cor 1:21) Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;
(1 John 2:20 ) But ye have an unction from the Holy One
(1 John 2:27) But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you,
This armor must be worn in the power of the Holy Spirit for it was created for nothing less than spiritual warfare.
