Message Point: We can overcome when we know that God is in control.

Focus Passage: I Samuel 17:32-33, 41-50

Supplemental Passage: For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7)

Introduction: He was over nine feet tall and wore bronze armor that weighed about 125 pounds and a bronze helmet. His legs were also protected by bronze armor, and he carried a bronze javelin slung over his shoulder. His spear was as thick as the bar on a weaver's loom, and its iron head weighed about fifteen pounds. A soldier walked in front of him carrying his shield.

I. Goliath’s Intimidation

a. Goliath was a giant

b. We all have Goliath’s in our lives that intimidates us

II. David’s Determination

a. David was willing to stand up even when everyone else was hiding

b. David recalled what God had done before

c. David trusted in God to get the job done; he knew this wasn’t about himself, but about God

III. God’s Vindication

a. God used David to bring glory to Himself

b. God used David to defeat the giant
