THE BASIC TENETS OF OUR FAITH

Heb. 6:1-3; 1 Tim. 4:14-16

Tenet => Something accepted as an important truth.

=> Any other set of established or fundamental beliefs.

Our moral and ethical values are based on them.

They are the things needed for Christian growth.

 Your “age” as a believer does not excuse you from these things – 1 Jn. 2:13.

 They are guaranteed to make you grow – 2 Pt. 1

 Without them you won’t grow – your Christianity will be empty and boring –1Tim 4:12ff.

 They give you reason to live as a believer.

 You cannot miss Heaven with them in your life.

 You cannot live victoriously on earth without them – 1 Tim. 4:16.

 There is no test, trial or temptation that you cannot overcome with these in your life – 2 Cor. 4; 10; Rom. 8:35ff.

 With them you will fulfill your role as light of the world, salt of the earth and an influential city or house on a hill top – Mat. 5:13ff; Is. 2:1; 60:1.

The Seven (7) Requirements Of Every Believer.

1. The study of the Word – 2 Tim. 2:15; Acts 6; Col. 3:16.

 This exposes you to God’s wisdom

 It has to be done privately (personally – 2 Tim. 2:15) and publicly.

 Publicly => Small groups and general church meetings – Acts 2:41ff.

2. Prayer - Personal and Corporate – Lk. 22:46; 1 Tim. 2:1ff; Jm. 5:13, 16.

 Ensures we maintain our fellowship with our Father God and with one another.

 It puts us in position to change situations around us for the better – Ps. 122.

3. The baptism with the Holy Spirit and fire – Acts 19:2.

 This ensures we walk in power – Lk. 24:48ff; Acts 1:8.

 Also ensures we’re not helpless – Rom. 8; Jn. 14:16.

 The baptism with fire ensures purification and transformation so we can properly manifest the life of God.

4. Reaching the lost – Mk. 16:15ff; 2 Cor. 5.

 Fulfilling the great commission – Mk. 16:15ff.

 The expansion of the kingdom of God.

 Compelling people to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord – 2 Cor. 5; Ju. 1:23.

5. Walking by Faith – Heb. 11:6; 1Jn. 5:4; Jam. 1:5ff

 Healing.

 Prosperity.

 Overcomer’s mentality – Rom. 8:37-39.

 Limitless life – Ps. 78:41; Hebs. 3; This is simply pleasing God.

6. Walking in love by Faith – Gal. 5:6; 1 Cor. 13; 1 Jn.3; 4.

 This has to do with edifying one another – 1 Cor. 14.

 Also has to do with walking in the spirit.

7. Living a crucified life– a life of Holiness – Gal. 2:20; Heb. 12:14;

2 Tim. 2:2:3-5.

 Dying to the flesh – Rom. 6; Gal. 5:16ff.

 Spiritual sacrifices – 2 Tim. 2:3-5.

 Sowing and Reaping – Gal. 6:7ff.

8. Fellowshipping with other believers – Hebs. 10:25.

 The early Church did it – Acts 2:41ff.

 By this you demonstrate that you are part of the body of Christ – Ps. 122.

 No believer can grow maximally unless they fellowship with other believers – Eph. 4:15-16; Ps. 122.

 There is power in unity – Ps. 133; Acts 4:23-31.

 Among the righteous there is favour – Prov. 14:9.
