Contributed by Josh Mcdowell on Nov 28, 2017 (message contributor)
Summary: This a simply expository study of Acts 1:12-26. The (5 points) Apostles Styles, Supplication, Spokesman, Situation, Selection.
If God calls you to stand He will give you a word form His word to stand on.
Do you know, hear, and read His word often enough to get a word from His word to stand on?
b. Peter spoke
Peter spoke the truth and he spoke to the group.
Do you speak up when God gives you a word from His word?
Would you begin to stand up when called on by God?
c. Peter used scripture
For it is written in the book of Psalms… The Word of God is our guidebook and our strength. There is nothing more powerful than the word of God. Keep that in mind anytime you do anything for the cause of Christ. If you are called to pray at work, quote scripture. As you share the gospel use scripture. Memorize the Word of God it is your sword.
Do you know the Word of God in such a way that you can share it when you have the opportunity?
4. The Apostles Situation (v.16-20)
a. Judas had become a part v.17 (a part, like a piece of the overall puzzle)
When Luke says in Acts 1:17 that Judas had received his portion in this ministry is talking about the fact that Judas had a job in the ministry. He had found his place to serve in this group of Apostles.
As you read this allow it to remind you that having a position at the church does not guarantee that you are OK. It doesn’t free you from sin or even the horrible sin of betraying the Lord.
Also allow it to challenge you, and ask yourself… what is my portion in the ministry?
Am I actively participating in the cause of Christ?
b. Judas was now gone and he needed to be replaced
Would the church miss you if you were gone?
If you have to wonder about the answer to that question, don’t leave but get active.
5. The Apostles Selection (v.21-26)
a. They selected from experienced men
b. They sought God through prayer
c. They singled out Matthias
