3. Fragrant Cane (CALAMUS)

The Calamus plant grows in miry soil. To get this plant to smell you had to beat it. The more you beat it the better it smells. It was an appetizer that made you hungry. Scientist have even studied this ingredient and determined that rubbing it on your skin would increase your appetite. The anointing will give you an appetite for the things of God. It will give you a passion for God.

Again, God’s anointing is able to increase in your life the more you pass through the difficulties of life, and God is able to fashion your character.

Have you been through some hard knocks? Some are harder than others aren’t they. But they are working in your character – as long as you respond to them as God wants you to. He’s shaping you for the anointing.

God is more interested in anointing character than great abilities.

4. CASSIA

This spice grows only at elevations above 8,000 feet. You’ve got to get up on the mountain to get it.

If you desire God’s anointing - you’ve got to look up. Get on the mountain with God. There’s no shortcut to the anointing - we’ve got to PRAY. Jesus lived in the anointing of the Spirit. He maintained a close walk with the Father in prayer at all times.

At the same time Cassia is a purging agent/laxative. The church needs a good purging. You get the anointing in you it is not all shouting. It will clean some stuff out of you. We all want the fire, but we don’t want the purging. If I don’t make you uncomfortable every now and then, then something is wrong. This oil will not anoint flesh and if we are going to be anointed then the flesh must be purged.

5. OLIVE OIL

All the ingredients were mixed with olive oil. And it was the mixture that was called "holy."

The only way to get olive oil is to beat it, squeeze, or press it by stomping it with the feet. It comes from brokenness; crushing and pressing and no one wants that either. We want a drive-through anointing - simple and cheap and quick. Anointing does not come that way. It comes only through the brokenness; the pressing; the crushing. The anointing is precious. The Holy Spirit is a gift, but the anointing come with a price. Anointing must be developed over a life time of brokenness. The last ingredient that binds it all together is found in the crushing and brokenness.

Apparently in the Word of God, oil symbolizes the Person of the Holy Spirit. In so many ways, in so many types and pictures, oil represents the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the principle character in the anointing of God. Of the three persons of the Godhead, anointing is primarily to do with the work and moving of the Holy Spirit. When God anoints, it is the outpouring of His Spirit.

All these ingredients mixed together with oil produced the anointing oil that was called “holy.” The Lord will combine all the good and difficult things in your life with the oil of His Holy Spirit. A sweet anointing will form in you, and He’ll be able to use you in incredible ways.
