Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Explores God's power and justice in life's storms, emphasizing that these trials serve to refine us and draw us closer to Him.
Welcome, dear brothers and sisters in Christ. It is a joy to gather together, even if it is in spirit and not in person, as we open God's word and seek His wisdom. Each time we come before the Lord, we come with open hearts and minds, ready to receive His divine instruction.
Today, we turn our hearts and minds to the book of Nahum, specifically Nahum 1:2-7. The words we find here are not just ink on paper, but they are the living, breathing words of God, capable of shaping our lives and guiding our steps.
Let's read this passage together:
"The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord takes vengeance and is filled with wrath. The Lord takes vengeance on his foes and vents his wrath against his enemies. The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished. His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet. He rebukes the sea and dries it up; he makes all the rivers run dry. Bashan and Carmel wither and the blossoms of Lebanon fade. The mountains quake before him and the hills melt away. The earth trembles at his presence, the world and all who live in it. Who can withstand his indignation? Who can endure his fierce anger? His wrath is poured out like fire; the rocks are shattered before him. The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,"
The storms of life are significant: They are not random or meaningless. They are part of God's intricate plan for our lives. They serve to refine us, to strengthen us, and to draw us closer to Him. Even in the midst of the storm, we can trust that God is in control. He is our refuge and our strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
The storms described in Nahum 1:2-7.:These are not ordinary storms, but divine demonstrations of God's power and justice. They serve as a reminder that God is not a passive observer, but an active participant in the world. He is a God of action, a God who intervenes in the affairs of men.
God’s character: In each of these storms, we see a different aspect of God's character. We see His wrath, His power, His sovereignty, and His justice. But we also see His goodness. Despite the intensity of these storms, we are reminded that the Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.
What does this mean for us?: It means that we can trust God in the midst of life's storms. We can trust His power, His sovereignty, His justice, and His goodness. We can trust that He is working all things together for our good and His glory. And it means that we can find refuge in Him. No matter how fierce the storm, we can find shelter in the shadow of His wings. We can find peace in His presence. We can find hope in His promises. So, let's not fear the storms of life. Instead, let's embrace them as opportunities to grow in our faith, to deepen our relationship with God, and to experience His power and presence in a new and profound way.
A manifestation of divine power that is awe-inspiring and terrifying: This is not a gentle breeze, but a force of nature that commands respect and demands attention ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
