Summary: God's word is a mirror that looks us, causes us to talk, can make us look better.

The Amazing Mirror James 1:17-27

1. How many times a day do we look in the mirror?

• Some look in the mirror to get information about themselves

• Some look to just confirm what they thought its awful looking

• We use mirrors to make ourselves look better

• We use mirrors for practical purposes when backing up, driving, safety reasons

2. Mirrors apparently have been around for a while

• Artifacts dating to 6,000 B.C. tell us that the early communities used polished stones as mirrors.

• In the book of Job, , we read, “Can you, like him, spread out the skies, unyielding as a cast mirror?”

• The women of the Exodus had mirrors, (see Exodus 38:8).

• The prophet Isaiah, writing in the sixth century B.C., refers to “mirrors, (Isaiah 3:23).

3. When you look in the Bible it is an Amazing Mirror. It looks at you and you look at him or it story

• William Barclay said, “It is God’s law. This amazing “mirror,” however, is the “perfect law” because it comes from God.

• Barclay said, “It cannot be bettered” This is as good as it gets, and it can’t get better. In fact, it is the law of “liberty” or freedom. Following this law, one is truly free. And liberty is what we all want, is it not?

• Barclay said, “It is directed toward an end. God’s law is perfect because its goal, end or purpose is to fashion vessels of perfection” who are what they are designed to be (the imago Dei) and who do what they are designed to do (reflect the Gloria Dei), put God on display.

4. The Bible is the Amazing Mirror it makes us talk

• We tend to talk to mirrors; you get up in the morning. You have sleep lines in your face. bags under your eyes Your hair looks like it has been supercharged with 500 volts of electricity. You stand in front of the mirror. “Oh, my goodness!

• The wicked witch says Mirror mirror on the wall

• The Word can make us confess our sins, In the hour in which to speak I will give you what to say

• God told Moses I will speak for you I, will be with your mouth, and teach you what you are to say.”

5. The Bible is the amazing Mirror we must lean into the mirror to see better.

• As the late, great Yogi Berra, manager of the New York Yankees, used to say: “You can see a lot by looking.” Yes, you can. That’s why we often lean toward the mirror to get a better look at ourselves.

• The amazing mirror says now listen 22 Do not merely listen to the word, Do what it says. Be doers not hears

• This Amazing Mirror is a gift from (God) this light never changes like shifting shadows

• The Amazing mirror says, “be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry get rid of all moral filth and the evil and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

• The amazing Mirror now listen keep a tight rein on the tongue and keep self from being polluted by the world.

• Finally , The Amazing Mirror has been around for a long time, its Gods Law, It can’t be bettered, it makes us talk, we lean into the mirror to get a better look at us.

• To look in the mirror is a good thing, but only if we then take action according to the data the mirror has furnished We become better versions of ourselves and the world becomes a better place when we look into God’s mirror — the perfect law — and act on what we see.
