Summary: Doing the bare minimum in important areas isn't just bad for us; it’s bad for those around us. Baptism included.

2. Acts 8:16 for he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

3. Acts 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.

4. Acts 19:5 On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

TO NOTE: I believe it is a one-time thing. Rededication does not appear to require another baptism.

4. What happens in baptism?

a. Buried in Christ and Die to Sin

i. Romans 6:1-6

6 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

b. Born into a new family and identity

i. 1 Corinthians 12:3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.

ii. Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

c. Put on Christ

i. Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Life application:

Brother had a death dream. Put things in perspective as well as instilled fear. People who have near death experiences most typically will institute some type of change in their life.

Baptism is our near death experience. Death, Burial and Resurrection. Your life is no longer your own. You are dead to sin and alive in Christ. We should live in a manner that

Philippians 2:12-13

12 Therefore, my dear ones, as you have always obeyed [my suggestions], so now, not only [with the enthusiasm you would show] in my presence but much more because I am absent, work out (cultivate, carry out to the goal, and fully complete) your own salvation with reverence and awe and trembling (self-distrust, with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness against temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of Christ).

13 [Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.

Goal and Aspiration/Call to Action:

What if we could do it? What if we could live a life further than the bare minimum of salvation? What could we accomplish as a family in Christ? Realizing how we are intertwined via the new life we share in Christ? Moving from Glory to Glory!

Can we live a little closer to Him this week; a little more in acknowledge of His presence that we’ve put on through baptism?
