Summary: Common thread between the Thanksgiving holiday and our spiritual lives.

Thanksgiving

Things that we do during this season that we need to do in our spiritual lives

Psalms 50:23

11/16/06

He who offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me; And to him who orders his way aright I shall show the salvation of God.

1. Invite family and friends over

Matthew 9 Jesus says = Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."

One of our job duties as Christians is to actively work for souls. Remember we give the invitation and God does the saving!

We need to actively permote what God is doing in us!

2. Prepare for the feast

II Timothy 2:15 = Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Preparation is needed in order to pull off a successful Thanksgiving Day feast right?

The turkey just doesn’t stroll up and sit on your porch and the potatoes don’t jump out of the ground and into your mailbox! You prepare in advance for all the day’s activities.

Are we as believers truly preparing for the day when we see God face to face?

We need to prepare – Memorizing scripture, earnestly prayer, being a blessing

3. Prayer of thanksgiving is offered

Col 4:2 = Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving

In many American homes, the Thanksgiving meal is the only time when a prayer is offered to God!

We need to remember that what we believe in hinges on prayer!

Jesus prayed in Gethsemane. What if Jesus didn’t pray that night? We prayed a prayer of salvation to receive Christ as our savior. Prayer is the heart of our spiritual walk. If we don’t pray, we will start the process of dieing!

4. Main entrée is served

Psalms 145:5 = I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, And on Your wondrous works.

Remember it’s not about me – But it’s all about Jesus!

5. Eat to over filling

Eph 3:9 =to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

In most cases, Thanksgiving Day is the day when everybody overeats!

When was the last time you overeat in the presence of God? His desire is to fill us complete – But it is my job to open the lid of my life and allow his spirit to flow into me. God will not open you lid! We need to move beyond a once a week filling!

6. Time of fellowshipping with family

I John 1:7 = But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Fellowship is so important in your spiritual walk. Don’t be a loner – You need God’s people!

I heard this statement a little while ago - Satan’s goal is always to isolate you – God goal is always to insolate you!

7. Time for a nap!

Matthew 1:28-29 = Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

There is nothing like an afternoon Thanksgiving Day nap amen!!!!!

Remember it’s not God’s design for you live your life stressed out

Heb 4:11 = Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

This scripture tells that if I don’t want to fall spiritually, I need to be diligently seeking God’s rest for my life.
