THANKSGIVING
We shall discourse about the reasons for thanksgiving.
There should be a balance between asking and thanksgiving. We must
continually give thanks to God in our speech, songs and prayers, Psalm 50:5, 69:30-31, Heb13:15, we are commanded to give thanks to God and we have examples of praising God privately. Dan 6:10 and publicly
Ps 35:18, Jn 11:41, we give thanks to God for (1) Who He is Ps 30:4
(2) The work of Christ Rom 6:17, I Cor 15:57, I Cor 2:14 (3) Our
salvation 1Tim 1:12-13. (4) Spiritual progress in the Lives of others Rom. 1:8, II Thess 1:3, 2:13 (5) Everything II Cor 9:11, 1 Thess 5:16.
In this opening chapter of Colossians we have great things for which to thank God.
1. Our Inheritance - Colo 1:12, Acts 26:18, Rom 8:16-17, 1 Peter
1:2-5, Eph 1:11, 18 we become partakers of the inheritance on the basis of the finished work of Christ, not everyone has an inheritance from God. I Cor 6:9-10, Gal 5:19-21 the inheritance is only for the saints who
are walking in the Light, in truth and in purity. What is Inheritance?
Eternal life Heb 9:15, all the promises, Heb 6:12, all things Rev 21:17, Acts 26:18.
2. Our Deliverance - Colo 1:13, I Sam 49:24-25, 53:10-12, Lk 22:52-53
Heb 2:14, To delivered means to be rescued, through Christ's suffering and death, we have been rescued from. The jurisdiction and authority of
darkness. At the new birth, we were delivered from the power of darkness. Now we must claim our right and move on in victory.
3. Our transference - Colo 1:13, Rom 6:17-18, 22, 1 Peter 2:9-10, I John 3:4, Christ accomplished much for us through His death on the cross.
Ignorance keeps many of us away from benefits. We have been translated into the Kingdom of God's dear son. Rom 14:17, Heb 12:28. A kingdom is a group of people rule by a king. Our lives should be under the control of Christ. We are to be thankful to God for what Christ did for us.
