Explore and understand the depth of God's unfailing, redeeming, and unconditional love.
Good morning, church family! We're going to dive into a beautiful and powerful Psalm today, Psalm 107, which is all about the unfailing, redeeming, and unconditional lovingkindness of our God. This Psalm reminds us that God's love isn't just a concept or a nice idea, it's active, it's powerful, and it's changing our lives every single day.
Charles Spurgeon once said, "It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness." God is so loving and so kind and today we’re going to talk about how we can learn to thank him for that and enjoy it.
When we say that God's lovingkindness is unfailing, we are saying that it is constant, it is unchanging, it is dependable. It's not like human love that can be fickle, inconsistent, or conditional. God's love is steadfast and unwavering. It's not dependent on our performance, our behavior, or our circumstances. It doesn't fluctuate based on our moods or our actions. It's not a love that comes and goes or fades with time. It's a love that is always there, always available, always ready to embrace us.
In Hebrew: The Hebrew word for this kind of love is "hesed," (חסד, pronounced kheh-sed”) which is often translated as "lovingkindness" or "steadfast love." It's a love that is loyal, that is committed, that is covenantal. It's a love that says, "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5). It's a love that says, "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness" (Jeremiah 31:3).
An active love: It's a love that acts, that intervenes, that rescues. It's a love that is demonstrated in action. That's why the Psalmist says, "He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave" (Psalm 107:20). God's love is not just a feeling or an emotion. It's a force. It's a power. It's a love that redeems, that saves, that heals, that restores.
A love that is patient: It's a love that waits, that endures, that perseveres. It's a love that is long-suffering, that is slow to anger, that is rich in mercy. It's a love that bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things (1 Corinthians 13:7). It's a love that never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
A love that is personal: It's a love that knows us by name, that knows our every thought, our every feeling, our every need. It's a love that is intimate, that is close, that is relational. It's a love that says, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart" (Jeremiah 1:5). It's a love that says, "I have called you by name; you are mine" (Isaiah 43:1).
The redeeming love of God is not just a passive love that merely observes and empathizes, but it is an love that steps in, rescues, and restores ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
