INTRODUCTION

As you all know this Thursday is Thanksgiving. This morning I’d like to ask what you are most thankful for. Is it your family, friends, church, or job? Indeed I think all of us are thankful for these things. In our passage this morning I believe Paul points out not only what he is most thankful for but what all Christians should be thankful for.

I. PAUL UNDERSTOOD CHRISTIANS STRUGGLE DAILY (Read Rom 7:18-19)

A. All of us have a sinful nature (Read Rom 3:23)

1. Notice it says we “fall short of the glory of God”. That means we never will get to the place where we never sin.

B. Everyday we need God’s forgiveness (Read Rom 7:21)

C. Too often Christians mistake this struggle for what it is and think they aren’t saved. (One of my deacons at Mt Olive came to me shortly before he died fearful he wasn’t doing all God wanted him to do)

D. A feeling of unworthiness is the hallmark of a person who is sold out to God (The deacon at Mt Olive is a perfect example. Read Rom 7:24)

II. PAUL IS TRYING TO ENCOURAGE BELIEVERS TO:

A. Renew our minds (Read Rom 7:23 and 12:1-2)

1. Don’t listen to the devil. Remember he is the father of lies. He is continually trying to get us to believe we are no use to God.

2. God can and will use us if we are totally committed to Him.

III. JESUS DEATH ON THE CROSS PURCHASED OUR REDEMPTION AND VICTORY (Read Rom 7:25)

CONCLUSION

Today I’m grateful for my family, friends, my church, and my job but I am most thankful for what Jesus has provided for me. He has given me a home in heaven and the peace and assurance of knowing He is in control and will never leave me. If you don’t know the peace and assurance I’m talking about it is my prayer that you will repent of your sins and make Jesus your Savior and Lord today.
